The world operates because of education. It has long been written that human intelligence holds the credit for the progression of man. We enhance this gift as soon as we enter school. We have spent almost a quarter of our lifetime inside the walls of learning institutions. With this, it is only right to strictly scrutinize the system to ensure quality teaching.
In my opinion, dominant incorporation of job training in college greatly diminishes the importance of theoretical knowledge. According to Pelling, a barber does a dentist’s job before the year 1800’s; they were branded as “barber surgeons” (14-16). Later on, the fast adaptation and understanding of man to the discipline of medicine led modification after modification of curriculums. Today, those in pursuant to be a dentist, requires four years of formal learning and only allotted two years in clinical application. Anyone can pull a tooth, this is true. But, it takes a well-educated man to know the complex network of nerves at risk for facial paralysis, should a tooth extraction goes wrong. Implementation of practical application prematurely suggests backward thinking, as in olden times. We must follow a general rule of learning from the mistakes of the past.
The best time for learning is during school. Foundations are honed and comprehension is exercised the finest. This frame of opportunity should be devoted with principles and ideas. Training can take part after the assimilation of facts and integration of the basic values involved.
All of this should be allocated for a considerable amount of time during college.
I believe it will be best to produce graduates with prepared minds and sufficient information about their future careers. This assures employers that they are hiring mentally competent personnel. Performance is then later polished while gaining experience at work. It cannot be stressed enough that we shouldn’t sacrifice time of study for manual wisdom. Adequate lecture time is a pre-requisite for professionalism.
Extensive understanding of a subject favors a work to be right the first time. College should be the preparatory phase of a person. Early imposition of job training promotes learning by trial and error. This excuses no one should it result to seriously compromise a person. A risk is taken every time we early assign someone with very little background about the nature of the task.
Steven Bradley Glicksman professed that practical understanding encompasses the different strategic methods to make the job easier but theory gives you the purpose and the bigger picture (“The Value of Theoretical And Practical Knowledge - Vanseo Design"). This statement proved about the two important factors in career building. Practical training is also a crucial component but it shouldn’t be the chief concern in college.
Primarily endorsing on-the-job training for college presents problems in supervision, or lack of it. As we assimilate on a job, a brace of reality might be a source of pressure (“Management”). The environment is non-conducive in the long and patient process of learning. It will bear wrong applications and practices due to haste and demands.
Various techniques changes from time to time but fundamental concepts are a constant. Educators make it a priority to impart useful data by way of lectures and thought-provoking materials. Practical learning may be adventurous but grasping the right reason behind every trade is gold.
