Informational Report
Further, I decided to pursue a degree in criminal justice to enable me to contribute to the judicial system of my country. For, with a degree in criminal justice, I can easily apply for and be selected to be a judge or magistrate. This way, I will have the opportunity to play a part in our criminal justice and judicial systems. I have always yearned for a society where there is justice for everyone and hence, by being a judicial officer such as a defense or prosecutorial counsel, I will be in a better position to defend people’s rights and the interest of the state in maintaining law and order. According to Sandy (2010), taking part in a study course or career in which one has the chance of making a difference in other people’s lives brings some satisfaction. This writer argues that having a career in criminal justice enables one to play a role in making the world a better place.
Moreover, I decided to earn a criminal justice degree to be able to serve the community. I believe that being a professional in the criminal justice system will put me in a better position of assisting in various community programs aimed at reducing and solving the crime. It will enable me to help members of the community with problems such as substance abuse and addiction to have the opportunity to reform their ways and behaviors. As a probation and correctional officer with deep knowledge of the nature and operations of the criminal justice system, for example, I will play a significant role in helping local communities deal with social problems such as crime and deviance or delinquency. Pursuing a criminal justice course, therefore, makes one feel the urge to be empowered to help other people and to be connected with them.
Analytical Report
According to Hall, Ventura and Lambert (2007), people who have pursued criminal justice careers have the advantage of attaining leadership roles and are more likely to be promoted at their workplace than those employees with no background in criminal justice. Hence, pursuing a criminal justice considered to be a plus in one’s career. This is one of the factors that drove me into pursuing a criminal justice course.
The field of criminology has also been an area of particular area of interest since it helps us explain how and why certain crimes and behaviors occur. The psychology and philosophy of crime and criminal behavior is a valuable aspect of criminal justice as it enables us to solve crime by looking at the root causes and motives for committing crimes. Thus, acquiring a degree in criminology, for instance, would give me the opportunity of impacting criminal behavior in more active and useful ways.
Additionally, I chose to pursue a graduate degree in criminal justice to help me create and expand my social networks. As a student, I interact with students and criminal justice experts and professionals from different parts of the nation and the world which helps me to create more opportunities for personal growth and development. Some of these people have more experience in the way the criminal justice system operates and success paths that are available for anyone who takes a criminal justice course.
