Arguably, Trouble the Water is one of the powerful and touching documentaries I have ever seen. In fact, the movie marked a defining moment for Carl Deal and Tia Lessen on a post-Katrina documentary. As a matter of fact, the movie became one of the powerful tools in mobilizing humanitarian concerns and human rights issues after Katrina in New Orleans. Trouble the Water is a movie demonstrates a story of an aspiring rapper and her husband who were victims of the hurricane Katrina. The two became victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, but they managed to survive the floods, and then got hold of a new life.
The documentary follows the life of Scott Roberts and Kimberley in the entire episode of the storm, after the storm, as well as the starting a life. Certainly, the movie Trouble the Water do not only focus on Hurricane Katrina, but also illustrates and puts to light issues that were brought up by the floods and what transpired in society after the floods. Perhaps, some of these problems that remained after the flood waters include lack of accountability of the government, poverty, structural racism, as well as incarceration.
The documentary focuses on the experience of issues and events that took place during and after the floods. In the movie, Kimberley admits being aspiring rapper, and his husband Scott admitted that he is a reformed drug dealer. In addition, the documentary goes further to exposing the relatives of Kimberly manage to provide some shelter in their homes, as well as neighbors and friends of whom Kimberly takes care of. This is a clear show of generosity, and human character among some individuals. These individuals are under the wing of Kimberly, who helps the selflessly, generously and unflinchingly in developing a new beginning after the Katrina. In fact, from the movie Kimberly gets praise from a woman who gives a testimony on the heroic character of Kimberley.
Trouble the Water is a movie that is set based Hurricane Katrina, as well as the abandoned individuals in the New Orleans who faced the deadly floods. The story is so real since it elaborates on how the ordinary individuals struggles through hard times in life, and more so during man-made and natural storms. In critical perspective, Kimberly represents celebrated individuals in society and condemns the tremendous failures of the government in helping its people. Perhaps, the movie is not about the deadly floods or Hurricane Katrina, it is about the people of America, government, and America at large. The government failed to provide the victims of the deadly flood with the basic needs; in fact, it did not fulfill its promises to the victims of the floods.
The comments of included in the movie, more so from Scott and Kimberly exposes the main issues that affect the people of America. In fact, these issues include poverty and racism. Poverty and racism has been discussed at the rear the outlook for a long time, in fact, it has been kept in the dark, yet many Americans are victims. The individuals in Trouble the Water assert that they are at a halt waiting for the government to provide relief. From the movie, it is clear that all the victims waiting for relief are all poor and blacks; in fact, some are desperately asking for help from bridges and rooftops.. Responsively, it is justified to question on how individuals in the middle class wait for long to receive help.
Conclusively, the documentary Trouble the Water is not about Hurricane Katrina, but it is all about America. Trouble the Waters exposes and explores American issues that are not addressed publicly. These issues include class, poverty, racism, and citizen-government relationship. If not addressed, this issue will continue to haunt the American people. Watching the documentary, develops a sense of anger, fear, abandonment, helplessness, and a sense of hope. The filmmakers assert that the documentary main goal was dramatic movie, but analytically the movie became a tool of delivering information.
