In my view, the most important role of the US President is the chief of state. In this role, the President symbolizes all the people of the great American nation. Furthermore, the President embodies the whole concept of the American dream with the entire outstanding historical legacy, which was left to us by the Founding Fathers of the United States. This role also means that the President is the chief of the Government.
The second most important role of the US President is the chief diplomat. While fulfilling the mentioned role, the President acts a negotiator, who helps to resolve critical situations on the international arena in order to defuse tension between the nations as well as to avoid the emergence of an armed conflict. According to the Charter of the United Nations, “all nations should live in peace and security with one another as good neighbors”. I believe that the President of the US does a lot of efforts in order to contribute to international peace. For example, if it wasn`t for both hard work and devotion of John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the situation might have turned into an armed conflict between the two superpowers, USA and USSR, involving the using of devastating nuclear weapons.
As to the third most important role, I consider it to be the chief of party for two reasons. On the one hand, the system of elections in the United States has a long history. Each of the two main parties has a respectable image and as well as its devoted electorate. Therefore, everything the President does during his cadence, has a direct impact on the reputation of his party and, therefore, on the upcoming elections. On the other hand, political parties are an important part of the government. The President of the United States is the head of the party, responsible for the executive power. I believe that he should have strong skills of a manager in order to control the actions of officials.
Arriving to the conclusion, I am entirely convinced that being a President of such a powerful country as the United States of America is a hard job, which requires dealing with great amount of stress and responsibility on the day-to-day basis. However, I consider that if the President is able to successfully perform three most important roles, he is a great leader of a great nation.
