Personal Code of Ethics
Ethics, morals and values are one of the most important characteristics in a person and these define personal code of ethics, how I live my life and the way lives of those around me, who I am and what we believe in. This code of ethics is one that has great importance in life, both personally and professionally. By definition, ethics are a system of moral principles. Therefore, ethics are more than just a system; it is word with various definitions. But I believe every choice I make; i implement my ethical beliefs and morals (Howard, & Korver, 2008).
There are various factors that differ from one another; these are morals, ethics and values. People believe is affected by may be the childhood upbringing one went through, life experiences, family, culture, friends, religious beliefs, discussions with other and race among others. As human being we do not think the same this is because many times our person’s beliefs may differ with someone else’s. However, most people have a good sense of right and wrong.
In my own personal code of ethics is based on two things; making right decision making since I believe well made decisions provide the best outcome for my own life, and then those around me. Also, my decision making must be in favor to surroundings people and make them happy (Colson, 1997). In my decision making process I always try to use my integrity since I know the better person I am, the better image I present. The other thing my personal code of ethics must be based off is honest and responsibility. Responsibilities make others to rely on me.
Where did my personal code of ethics come from?
My personal code of ethics kicked off from my birth and continues up to date. The major contributors to my code of ethics are my family mostly my parents, although my friends, teachers did a major contribution when I was in school and later on my life experiences has totally contributed to my personal code of ethics . My parents taught me right from wrong, while and reinforced their rules (Colson, 1997).
My teachers, from junior school through high school have all been positive inspirations in my life, trying to direct me in the right direction and giving me strong, sound advice. My friends and teachers tried to steer me into mischief sometimes, they never tried to teach me bad behaviors. During my teenage years, my friends contributed a lot and made me whom I am (Howard, & Korver, 2008).
My later life experiences taught me unforgettable and precious lessons that added value in my life; to trust what I can see that is to give credit where credit is due. Never trust what I only hear since there are evil people who want to offend people by both mentally as well as physically. Don’t change who I am to please others and depend on myself. I have learnt that I must treat other people as I wished to be treated this is the respect I reflect back to all who respect me. Lastly I have learnt to be courteous since every act of kindness make differences in the life of someone.
What are the major influencers on it today?
The first level of influencer currently is the childhood upbringing; from my parents I they taught me what is right and what is wrong in my current world. The second levels are friends and teachers in the school and collages who help one to understand the value of life. The third influencer is the workplace environment (Colson, 1997). One is able to have good collaboration and co-operation.
