The union became victorious in the civil war because it had a united front that was well organized during the civil war(Gallagher, 2011). The union which is also referred to as the North Won this war because various other concrete reasons. These include having an industrial economy, good means of transport, larger population and increased immigration (Gallagher, 2011). In addition, the North was also able to recruit the many black men, to include the freed slaves. The other reason as to why the North defeated the South was due to its successful blockade of the South. The North also had a well-established government, and also received support from other nations (Gallagher, 2011). All these reasons will be captured in detail as below.
The first reason as to why the North defeated the South is because the North had a well-established industrial economy as opposed to the South whose economy was dependent on agriculture (Gallagher, 2011). In this regard, the North was able to sustain its army through its industrial economy in various ways. One of these ways is that they were able to manufacture arms that were used in fighting the South. The other importance of having an industrial economy was that the North was better placed in generating revenue as a result of its industrial activities (Gallagher, 2011). This is because, the union used to trade some of its industrial output to other nations, thereby generating revenue in return that could be used in compensating the soldiers. Compensation was one way of motivating the soldiers from the North (Gallagher, 2011).
The other reason as to why the North was victorious in the civil war is because they had a proper infrastructure in terms of transport (Gallagher, 2011). History reveals that the North well connected to the railroad. Railway transport was commonly used during the civil war by the North in various ways. The first way in which this form of transport was used was in transporting the soldiers from one point to the other. This enhanced efficiency since there were minimal delays in terms of reaching the targeted region (Gallagher, 2011). The enemy forces to the North, on the other hand, could not be able to move swiftly from one point to the other, since they had no proper means of transport. In this case, the result were that the soldiers from the North were able to outdo their enemy, since they were powerful in the sense that they got immediate action in cases where there supplies were out of stock. For instance, in case the bullets were out of stock, the soldiers were provided with new stocks in time (Gallagher, 2011).
The third reason as to why the union won the civil war is that it had a larger population. Members of this large population were recruited to fight in the war. The implication of this is that the Union had adequate manpower or human resources. Apart from the recruitment, the larger population provided sufficient support to the soldiers in the battlefield (Hattaway, & Jones2008). They encouraged the troops to soldier on, thereby providing the troops with moral support. On the other hand, the union also had increased incidences of immigration. This was advantageous in that; the North was able to mix various ideas from various regions in fighting the enemy. In this regard, the North was rich in terms of ideas on how to defeat the enemy, and in this case they ended up winning the war (Gallagher, 2011). In addition, the union also opted to recruit freed slaves and some black men, who provided reinforcement during the civil war. This provided the union with sufficient number of troops when compared to the South, thereby defeating the South (Hattaway, & Jones2008).
The fourth reason for the Union's victory in the civil war is that they were able to block the South successfully (McPherson, 2012). This blockade was imposed in the Sea, whereby the North used its naval ships in accomplishing this mission on blockade. Apart from that, the merchant marine fleet of the United States was also used in blocking the South from the North (McPherson, 2012). The sea routes were the ones that were commonly used by the South to access the North. In this case, the entry of the South to the North was paralyzed as a result of the blockade. The results of the blockade were that the North was more powerful in that the South could not be able to remove the imposed barriers, thereby leading to its defeat (McPherson, 2012).
The North also won the war over the South, because the North had a well-established form of government. The government of the Union supported the soldiers through ensuring that the soldiers are well remunerated in order to boost their morale to fight (Hattaway, & Jones2008). Apart from that, the government also provided direction on how the soldiers were to deal with the enemy. Besides that, the government of the Union through its good relationship with other nations was able to get support from its allies. This led to the defeat of the South since it did not get any external support (Gallagher, 2011).
