Kate Chopin uses an essential conviction that in nature women are associated with the sexual desires that are essentiality for women’s happiness and self fulfillment. The acceptance of an individual’s sexuality is well retrieved in “The Storm” and the “Fedora”. Fedora describes her sexual awakening as a joyful amplification of her sexuality. On the other hand, Calixta’s sexual desire makes her feel happier and a good-natured woman.
However, Kate passes up the use of euphemistical image of the way women practices their sexual arousing. Most of the heroin in her storied could see sexual drive as a prohibited aspiration that has to be censored. Therefore, Kate’s stories develop a point of clash between the women needs and the moral value during the time of Victorian. For instance, Mildred is being portrayed as a victim of doctrines that were set in 19th century. This is because she has internalized her culture’s social values and she is unable to respond to the feelings that Fred awakens in her.
On the other hand, according to O’Connor, women are demonstrated as representative of the cultural code that makes all women an unreceptive object awaiting protection and love. In the “sweet nothing”, the women ironically use sweet or rather sugary words, such as sugar and honey, to refer to men. This shows how women often lack the awareness of the bigot language they use. Compared to Kate perspective on women the aspect for sexual desires is though hidden, portrayed by O’Connor.
In terms of faith O’Connor depict the image of women as having a twisted or distorted form of faith. This illustrates that women, according to O’Connor, do not have the same standpoint, they are volatile and easily distorted. This contradicts with the view of Kate who portrayed women having a standpoint of avoiding the sexually drive, a practice that is not common to many women.
