Assignment #1: Best Companies Research Paper 9/23
With the increase in demand of financial needs, most people are forced to go extra miles in order to make a living that could efficiently sustain them and their families. Most organizations none the less have objectives that aim at maximizing their profits. This thus makes them to push their human resource to the edge.
This in turn affects the workers relationship with their families and their employers as well. It is thus upon the desire of the employee to find out the work- life programe of a company before he applies or even before he takes a job offered by that company. A responsible person is that man who balances the work life and his social life. Juggling these roles may be hard especially if the organization does not offer sufficient room for this. Some of the greatest companies however have work-life programs that are sufficient enough to enhance a good relationship both at work and outside work. (Kanchan, 2009)
Nokia, the number one manufacturer of quality cell phones for instance is a big company with several employees. In this company, most of the communication is done online by the use of their website. This is convenient enough since the website is easily accessible. It is this same website that they communicate their work-life and work- family programs to the prospective applicants. A prospective applicant will thus take his time and view the offers tabled by Nokia Company and see if it is convenient for them.
Nokia offers programs and services that support the employee in maintaining a perfect work- life balance with the change in the situations of life. For example:
Nokia Company has offered the program of teleworking and mobile working at home. This gives you as an employee good time to bond with your family at home while working. This could also give you time to go work even while at the remotest of places such as the rural homes.
Nokia also offers flexible working hours for its employees. They give you a chance to dictate your working hours as long as you ensure they are equal to the required organizational working hours. This could help you create time for your family by being free at that point that suits you most. This enables you to have even more bonding time with your family.
Subsequently, the Nokia Company also offers unpaid time offs. This offers the employee with a chance to enhance his own personal growth as well as self management. This also offers the employee with a chance to solve the few issues that may have come to his life in impromptu.
In addition, the Nokia Company gives its employees a chance to extend their leaves for a number of days. This is of help to the employees since some of the errands that they may have been doing might have not been accomplished and thus he may require added time. At this time he is at liberty to request for this extended leave to ensure his tasks are completed.
Nokia also offers, counseling services, insurance services, and medical checkups among others. This is to ensure that their employees and their families are healthy. This is of an advantage as a sound mental and physical tone is a boost to the performance of the employees.
Nokia also offers fitness facilities that they use to enhance healthy living. This also ensures a good working relationship among fellow workers. This is because they share these facilities with one another. For instance, the gymnasium could be used by anyone at any time, so they may meet there and exercise while bonding.
The Nokia Company also offers social functions that bring together the workers and their families at the same point. This is normally during the Christmas periods. This ensures that they find more time to get to know each other adequately. This helps in minimizing mistrust amongst one another and enhances close ties within different families.
Nokia also grants its employees sabbatical and academic leaves. These are prolonged absence for the purpose of attending approved scholarly activities that aim at improving the professionalism of the employee. This enables the employee to further their knowledge and research and also re enforce his networks with the global scholars. This in turn boosts the organization by bringing in even more skills in the business.
Finally, at Nokia, every employee has a right to bargain his remunerations and wages to suit his needs. The company is willing to offer the best deals possible to enhance better performance in every individual. (Kavita, 2010).
Given a chance, I would gladly accept to work at the Nokia Company. This is because they have a very pleasing and elaborate work-life program that I consider tantalizing. A good work-life program has an advantage to both the organization and to the employee. The company benefits by having an improved performance rate whereas the employees gain by having a weighty relationship with self as well as family.
