Question 1
There are many sources from which I gained my sense of wrong or right. While growing up, I picked up a few lessons on what is wrong and right from home, elementary school, high school, and college. Also, teaching on what is wrong and right came from the church. Apart from those sources, I gained a sense of wrong and right from my neighborhood through the day to day experiences and occurrences.
Examples of the ethical rules I learned while growing up include; honesty, objectivity and the respect for intellectual property. For instance, in research, it is imperative to report data and information as they appear even if they go against one's expectation. The third ethical principle is respect for intellectual property (Reskin 1).
It is important for people to follow ethical rules to guide them from doing wrong. The production of food requires a high level of ethics since unethical practices could lead to detrimental outcomes such as death.
Question 2
The three major ethical rules that apply to my daily activity include; honesty, objectivity, and respect for intellectual property. It is important to stay true at all the time while communicating. Honesty entail being true in conducting class assignments and avoiding copying Objectivity: entails bias avoidance and staying focused on the objective and not being subjective. It is important not to be biased when conducting research for the examination purposes. In writing a book report, I practice respect for intellectual property by properly acknowledging authors of the source used.
Question 3
It is highly unethical to monitor your employee internet usage at the workplace. However, employee monitoring is not illegal since the employer must ensure that the employee uses organizational resources appropriately. Respect for colleagues and confidentiality make this action unethical. It is important for the employer to respect his employees as his colleagues, at the same time ensure confidentiality through their privacy (Reskin 1).
Question 4
Copying other student’s homework and handing it as one’s own defies the ethical rule for honesty. While writing an academic essay, failing to acknowledge the authors of the sources used, can lead to lawsuits. This action defies the ethical rule of respect to intellectual property.
Question 5
Plagiarism violates more than one moral rule. Since it is the effect of presenting someone else's work as your own, it violates honesty. Additionally, plagiarizing is the failure to acknowledge the sources of borrowed ideas, thus, it violates the ethical rule of respecting intellectual property.
