"We believe that euthanasia is another technique to free society of disabled people and another expression of the ableism in western societies."
The present speech is about euthanasia. Today euthanasia is legal in some countries. And the aim of that topic is to reveal the truth that euthanasia is a harm. Just imagine that people you love or even you can occur in such situation. Would euthanasia be a way out or a harm? I think no one can chose euthanasia for the beloved people.
Now I want to speak about three things: first of all we discuss that euthanasia does not prevent from needless suffering. For second, decide that euthanasia does not give freedom for e person, in the end we speak about the Hippocratic Oath and it’s restriction of euthanasia.
There are some main points proving that euthanasia a tool of murder.
Some facts - in the world euthanasia is legal the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Estonia, Albania, the US states of Washington, Oregon and Montana.
First argument is that euthanasia does not prevent needless suffering.
The figures showed in the Netherlands, where euthanasia is legal; the euthanasia is requested due to not physical suffering but mental illness. Any physical pain can be alleviated that states medical science, euthanasia, in many cases is not a tool to “prevent needless suffering.” The opponents of the euthanasia, stated “If we consider suffering as a justification for ending someone’s life, then why do not we explain murders as a mercy?”
Euthanasia, as stated above, does not relieve from suffering. I agree with Norman Geisler, that it is a murder to kill somebody, as it not right. As the most euthanasia cases showed, euthanasia is used in most cases for mental ill people. So it seems to me that if you mental ill, than society don’t need you. It’s not right, so I believe, that you agree with me, that euthanasia is no good, as it doesn’t relieve form physical suffering of the patient. Another argument, supporting the idea that euthanasia is harm is that, euthanasia doesn’t give freedom.
Life is the highest value than liberty: Liberty isn’t possible without life. No one has the right take innocent human life, even your own life. Euthanasia doesn’t give a person freedom; it takes it away.
We cannot say he died with dignity, but we can say he lived with dignity. But still, euthanasia is not the way out. A beloved member of the family who is incapable of movement and all senses can give its family a hope while he still lives. Euthanasia cut out that hope. I believe many people, who sentenced their relatives to death are still asking themselves if is was really necessary. Killing people is restricted according to the Hippocratic Oath, and this is my third main point.
The third argument is that many opponents claim that the euthanasia goes beyond the Hippocratic Oath.
According to the Hippocratic Oath If one ask for a deadly medicine than it cannot be given to him. The Oath roots are in Paganism time where euthanizing individuals that were not valuable was common. The reason the Hippocratic Oath is given such a privilege is due to today's need in ethics that suits modern society and medical practice.
As you see, the Hippocratic Oath restricts killing people. And I believe, that fact will for many years restricts the laws for euthanasia legalization. And I think it is right.
At the end of the speech, I want to provide with citation “Euthanasia cases showed that legal safeguards are not capable of preventing abusing euthanasia once it is permitted.” . The legalizing euthanasia is some cases are salvation and is some cases damage. Even the citation above says that the legal euthanasia can be used for the bad. There is no right or wrong side in those cases. It all depends.
Euthanasia doesn’t relieve the pain from the patient, so it is not the way out. Moreover, it is a tool to kill mentally ill people. I don’t think it is necessary. A person has no right to decide whether one life is valuable and the other not. So, if there is a need for euthanasia, then let the person decide for himself whether to use it or not. Others have no such right. The Hippocratic Oath restricts killing people, and this is the main fact why in many countries euthanasia is not acceptable. I believe that you are persuaded that euthanasia is only harm, but not a salvation.
At the end, I want say that euthanasia is a tool of weighing people’s lives. Some lives are estimated as valuable and others not. People lives are equally precious. Imagine your relatives and friends ending like this. I believe no one wishes that. I want to finish my speech with following figures – at least 5 000 children were killed with the help of euthanasia in order to clean the society from wicked people during Nazi era. Of course, you can say that it was war time, but still I dislike even the idea of legalizing the means used by Nazi, and saying that it can help us. It is a murder tool, not a cure.
Thank you for attention!
