Many people all over the world would not oppose the licensing of gun owners. Licensing and registration of guns facilitates easier identification of criminals. This will also prevent the criminals from getting guns. Many authorities allege that increase in use of guns and other weapons leads to an increase in crime as well as deaths. Some authorities also think that having laws restricting people from carrying guns will reduce the rate of crimes. What they do not understand is that criminals are willing to carry guns whether it is lawful or not. The fact that guns can easily be accessed contributes to many homicides and assaults that could be far serious than ever. Increase in the number of guns leads to a consequent increase in gun violence, and the vice versa is true.
Studies have shown that areas with high gun ownership register a high percentage of violence, and hence the murder rate is high. This also applies to areas where gun control laws are not taken into consideration or are less stringent. When citizens are armed, arms race is encouraged. This means that criminals will carry high powered weapons and the level in which they discharge them is higher. In a situation where a criminal act was not contemplated, an injection of a gun in the situation will result to serious wounding or murder.
Allowing citizens to have and carry guns will burden the police. This is so, because the police will have difficulty in ascertaining whether the guns in possession are legal or not. There is also a notion that putting guns in the hands of citizens means that guns will also end up in the hands of criminals.
