he research was able to come up with conclusions and recommendations. It recommended that the council should consider excavating the landfall in one site that was considered to be the best of all. This is because it would be cheaper and more pollution free.
Introduction
As an assistant manager for the Town Council of Quillicom, Michigan, I was instructed by my boss, Robert D. Delorme to help this council in addressing the emerging problem of landfill that was already wrecking havoc to its administration. Hence, from my analysis, I found out that the council was planning to deal with this issue by first, optimally utilizing the already existing Lot 22, Sub-division3S until it would be fill up. Meaning, it would still be used as a dumping site that would be expected to still accommodate one more layer of trash.
However, this duty was done hand in hand with other concerned stakeholders. For instance, I had to make a lot of consultations with the renown H.L. Winman and Associates who was alluded to because they had been charged with such a task sometimes back. Besides, I consulted Ms. Inga Paullsen, a mine geologist who invaluably helped me to calculate the size of the excavation. These helped me to reach an amicable conclusion on the best quotations as site to recommend to the council.
The study plan
Because of the nature of this research, I had to segment it into three major sections. Firstly, I carried out the study of the topography of the area under investigation where I found out that the site had been a stable one with good water table and hard rocks that would be very suitable for the carrying out of the mining activities it was being prepared for. The land was to be shallow to enable the excavations extending up to a depth of 50 meters.
Mean while, the site proposed by the research are supposed to possess good qualities that will make them to withstand the common challenges associated with landfills. They also have to be cheaper so that the council can spend money as had been planned without unnecessarily straining their budget. The council can opt for the open pit mine landmine. As explained earlier, it is cheaper because it will only cost it a mere US $. One per year. On the other hand, the total cost incurred should not exceed US $. 3,000 particularly due to the relief got from the use of the already existing roads and buildings.
In addition, it should be environmental friendly in that it should not cause any pollution to the surrounding. The people living within the town should not get their water contaminated or suffer from any form of damage from the landfall. Therefore, the preferred Lot 18, Sub-division 5Nwill not inconvenience the town residents in any way because it is located to the south of the lake and the miners. At the same time, its bedrock is flowing from the north.
The best quotation was obtained from the Quattro Drilling and Exploration Company. They gave us an estimation of $. 83,200 tax inclusive. Before winding up the research activities, I had to pass by the land titles officer at Thunder Bay to carry out a survey on the land to be utilized. Surely, ascertain the real owner of the land as a one Jullie Sarah Caldicott would be a milestone since it would ease our research work by allowing us to work with the known, precise and clear records without any controversy. The size of the excavations was estimated by the geologist to be 60.9 acres.
Conclusion
The town council of Quillicon was in a dire need of a remedial measure to address the controversies surrounding its landfill project. The use of the professional geologists, engineers and all the other relevant parties was actually a break through.
It is therefore, important to stick to the chosen site and follow all the guidelines from the research done for them. This is the only way through which they will get an ultimate solution to this great issue.
Recommendations
I would like to recommend that it is upon the management of the Quillicon Town Council to make the best decision in line with this research so as to achieve their long term objectives. It should be committed to using the proposed site since it is more convenient, environment friendly and cheaper than the alternatives.
