Cultural heritage involves a number of ways through which one should lead a life through community development as this is passed from one generation to the other. Cultural heritage assists us to garner a sense of belonging as we get more insight on our origins. This is inclusive of customs, beliefs, practices, artistic expressions, values, and objects. We can relive and explore this while enjoying our cultural beliefs based on the places that we are based, and events are a great way through which culture can be efficiently expressed together with other individuals. The Pow Wow provides the perfect gathering that brings together people who can pay homage while representing traditions in a multi-cultural diverse environment.
San Diego proved to be the perfect location for the expression of American Indian Culture due to the high prevalence rate of native American Indians. The Pow wow event is an event in which I was in attendance, and the experience was phenomenal and educative. More than 1000 people attended the event. The event was made possible through the efforts of the American Indian Heritage Committee. There were booths all around that was used for exhibitions in the grounds on cultural innovations and revolutionization as utilized by the ancients. Tools on display were an expressive form of what was deployed in the past for survival inclusive of pottery, handmade bows and artifacts among others. The expressive nature of traditions allowed for public participation and involvement. The attendees of the event allowed for the commissioning and expression of various cultural aspects, and this was critical in showcasing cultural origins. However there are simple rules that govern the event, and this included the prohibition of alcohol and smoking as this habits are disruptive and unassociated with the preservation of culture. The American Indian culture is celebrated expansively and massively in the Pow Wow event. Families were present together with their children to celebrate the event that is a symbol of the American Indian tradition. Attendees were visibly elated on the opportunities available to people interacted as well as meeting new people alongside friends and relatives.
The main events incorporated various dance troupes that allowed for the interaction and exhibition of the general cultural values. The entrance was welcoming with an exquisite display of American Indian tradition through clothing. From the costumes worn it was pretty clear that American Indian culture is influenced to a great extent by art. There was beauty and harmony expressed through the various forms of clothing to showcase the daily life of the Indians. The culture also helped explain that the American Indian culture is far much more expressive than crafts and beadworks. The artistic expressions on display were coherent and in sync with the cultural beliefs of the natives. More and more people were dressed differently, and other events that were included in the event included dancing, singing, drumming as well as story telling among the different cultures. The cuisine provided also provided a feel of the American Indian culture as there was sharing in the deep cultural heritage. Children also got to revel in the event through activities like painting and play dancing. The cultural event is an exhibition of the inroads made at the reservation and temperance of our previous cultures. As the world grows it is important to keep in touch with our origins and the attendance of the event was extremely beneficial. The event was an honor to the people that transversed this land thousands years back.
