The recent three decades have witnessed intensive studies and researches on compositional process. Although the studies on compositional process have been a common state of the affair in traditional musicology, the analysis on this process became relevant in the early 1980’s. In an attempt to understand compositional process, Owen Jessie composed a comprehensive writing, “Evidence of Cipriano de Rore's Compositional Process”. The work presents an intensive analysis and description on some issues, concepts, and facts that define effective music composition. Besides the critics from modern scholars and music experts, Owen has proved her competence on music by presenting reliable facts to support her arguments (Kmetz 67).
In her writing, Owen states that one of the most intractable and enduring problem in modern musicology is the knowledge on the manner in which modern composers’ works. In her work, Owen has observed that it is complicated to understand how music composers think while composing their work. In most instances, the process of composing music is intricate and demanding. For example, understanding Renaissance musicology is essentially challenging. Knowledge of the process and the procedures used by modern music experts is vital in educating new artists on the most effective means of composing a dependable and reliable composition. The success of music composition is also determined by various factors including the skills of the composer, music characters, and the amount of spaces available in the page. The understanding on the artists’ thoughts and the procedures essential in composing a reliable art can also be vital in understanding some of the challenges in the process. Despite playing an informative role, the knowledge on composer thoughts and arguments is also useful in facilitating the adoption of reliable intervention measures to rectify the identified challenges.
The work of Owen explores some of the tools used by composers in their work. In her explanation, Owen observes that various composers use a variety of tools in necessitating their work both in contemporary and conventional society. Composers rely on erasable slate tablet in gathering information relevant in composing an attractive and constructive work. A slate tablet is also critical in facilitating the identification of the theme of music. Documentary evidence is also essential in assisting composers to compose an attractive work. This is helpful in assembling information on some of the theories used in composing music and other informative works. The documentary evidence is also functional in the identification of the characters to match with the theme of the composition. In essence, documentary from past artists are essential in facilitating the length and the styles essential in the composition of an attractive composition.
The work of Owen is also helpful in understanding the history of the compositional process. Although the study on the compositional process gained momentum in the early 1980’s, compositional process is as old as the history of the music. The work of Owen presented an intensive informational background on music history. The founders of the music industry have been critically and comprehensively described in the work. The knowledge of the history of music and the background information on compositional process have so far proved to be effective in understanding some of the challenges that are experienced in music sector. Furthermore, the history on the music industry and compositional process is vital in predicting the future development in the music sector. The knowledge on compositional process is useful in the identification of reliable intervention measures in dealing with challenges in compositional process (Owen 27).
Despite offering intensive analysis on the history and compositional process in music industry, Owen’s work has failed to present an intensive analysis on the expected future development in music sector. The work by Owen has completely failed to present future prediction of what is expected to be the future trend in music sector. To some extent, modern technological and culture integration trend have a significant effect in the transformation of the compositional process in the music sector. If I had a chance, I would pose the subsequent question to the author. What motivated her into writing this work, and what the evidence informs her arguments?
Owen work failed to present insights in of the challenges that could face composers especially in a dynamic and developing society. Modern music continues to witness diverse challenges in the course of composing music. Some of the challenges in the modern sector are largely because of emerging technological development and the increased cyber crimes. Evidence of Cipriano de Rore's Compositional Process has based its argument on traditional challenges and shortfalls instead of focusing on modern complicated challenges. To completely explore and facilitate the understanding of Evidence of Cipriano de Rore's Compositional Process, the author could have presented an intensive solution to some of the identified challenges in modern music sector. The concepts presented in Evidence of Cipriano de Rore's Compositional Process by Owen are highly relevant; however, scholars should conduct further studies to explain compositional process can be advanced especially in the modern society. This should especially focus on proposing effective strategies for addressing challenges that modern music artists face in the process of composing their pieces.
