Psychology
Introduction
Psychology plays a significant role in enhancing technological development as it is connected with science like any other subject. The subject (psychology) has proofed to borrow concepts from other science subjects as well as enriching them with more information. However, different scholars fear that the area has not received adequate attention as it should as it is not considered as a subject in schools despite its significant contribution. However, it is worth acknowledging that the subject ought to be considered as a science and has considerable influence towards technological development. We live in a global setting that is characterized by rapid change, and clinical psychology is one of the areas that have experienced technological innovation. The psychological assessment has embraced technology as part of the daily lives especially in the field of mental health. Psychologists have therefore been forced to employ innovation into their day-to-day operations in assessing their patients (Takooshian et al., 2016). New findings indicate that psychological testing plays a significant role in mental health, in particular with the introduction of q-interactive. The purpose of the above study is to inform other professionals in the field addressing the key issues as well as outlining the evolution of innovation in psychology and its impacts in solving different challenges, especially in mental health.
Use of psychology started over three thousand years ago although the field was appreciated much later after recognition of intelligence test otherwise referred to as the mental test that was established in 1890. However, the first application of the concept is believed to have taken place in China, and it included the use of different measures to solve different challenges, divergent thinking, and employment of visual perception among others. However, the use of psychological assessment was applied in most countries much later in the 20th century. One of the events that contributed to the utilization of the concept includes the military use during the war (Mesoudi, 2016).
Psychology has always been associated with technological development over the years, and different scholars relate human personality from simple to more advanced. According to Mesoudi (2016), the development of human mind was recognized from the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. Freud is among the prominent psychologists of all times and is renowned for his psychoanalysis approach of research. According to him, technological development in the human race was realized through the development of the human consciousness.
Trends
With more innovation, use of computers in the psychological testing has become a norm and with more innovation, the trend is enhancing. However, various issues attract the interest of different personnel such the experience of the concerned individuals, treatment recommendation, efficiency, and diagnostic issues among others. However, ethical concerns include some of the issues that need to be observed so as to meet the set standards adequately. In various sectors of the economy, electronic and digital options are becoming the preferred options of operation. With globalization, the society is shifting towards the use of advanced technological development especially with the introduction of the internet, which has enhanced the commercial application of innovation for the purpose of psychological assessment.
Traditionally, most of the data or activities used to be carried out manually, but with technological development, use of computers has gained popularity and conducts most of the activities. This includes test administration, interpretation, data storage and report writing, an aspect that has enhanced the level of health care provided. According to Mills & Kreutzer, (2016), computers have improved the process of psychological assessment and are thus regarded to be an ideal asset for use.
Issues
Psychology is otherwise referred to as the evidence-based practice which is used in intervening in areas that other subjects cannot. For instance, a psychotherapist is important in helping solve different mental disorder issues among other challenges that are experienced in healthcare facilities. With globalization, management of organizations has been faced with a lot of difficulties due work diversity, and psychological intervention has proofed to impact positively toward the development of effective management (Duffy et al., 2016).
Societal concerns
However, with increased use of psychological tests, different stakeholders were concerned with the validity of the various approaches employed. The issue attracted concerns from both national and international efforts to come up with adequate solutions that will harmonize the situation. For instance, it led to the development of the International Test Commission (ICT) in 1976 that was mandated with ensuring that ethical issues that dealt with the issue were brought to attention (Dunn et al., 2016). Some of the issues that are observed in the process include the basis of the tests, informed consent of the individuals under study, the release of data and adequate interpretation of the same, qualification and competency issues among others. It is worth recognizing the fact that observation of the different ethical concerns has contributed to more technological development in the field.
Innovation has introduced the use of internet-based testing as there are superior hardware and software with unique features that meets the task. Moreover, the same has contributed to the employment of advanced psychometric techniques, and though they impact positively to the situation, it is worth appreciating that there is a need to embrace best practice as one approach of facing the fears of ethical concerns.
Application
Psychological techniques are applied in the different parts of our lives to help solve different challenges in life. For instance, as a psychologist, I need to read people using different techniques so as to intervene adequately in problem solving or consultation. In the modern setting, psychology as a field is employed in addressing different challenges such as conducting assessment, intervention, consultation, supervision and research and inquiry among others (Song et al., 2014). For instance, in organizations with management challenges, psychologists can be used to help implement process improvement as one way of enhancing efficiency. Another example in place of how psychological techniques are employed in real life situation includes the administration of psychotherapy. Mental health is an area that has significantly applied the practice and with technological improvement in the area, different stakeholders will greatly benefit from the advancement.
Conclusion
Psychology is an emerging field which has received popularity in the recent past, and its impact is appreciated in various organizations especially in health care. Embracement of technological development in the field has played a significant role in solving different challenges that are experienced in the day to day lives. However, from the study, it is evident that psychology has limited literature despite its significant impact on life. The concept is revealed to have developed with the advancement of human intelligence over the years. Besides, its popularity in most nations was established late in the 20th century and to date, it has progressively gained popularity. Some of the innovative techniques in the field include the introduction of computers in the assessment and computation of data to make informed decisions.
The idea has enhanced the effectiveness of the concept in the day to day life indicating that it plays a critical role in problem-solving. It is evident from the study that psychology helps in addressing a broad range of challenges such as management issues, health issues among other concerns. However, due to the different societal concerns, various stakeholders have drawn ethical guidelines to direct on the extent to which the same is applied. As evidenced by the study, psychology is applied in different sectors of an organization and helps solve different kinds of challenges. Introducing more research in the area will impact well in managing the various societal issues that are solved by the same.
