Adaptation to the Pace of Change
Change has become the order of the day in present day management. Organizations have to continuously adapt to new challenges and objectives by the day. Change in an organization setting can only be initiated by the management. Managers know the objectives of the organization more than any other individual in the organization. The work force in the organization must be made to adapt to new changes within the shortest time. Therefore, the work force can be compared to the mythical Proteus. However; changes can only be made to give optimal results if they are managed properly. The management has the initiative to analyze and utilize the work force in the best manner possible to get desirable results.
Just like the mythical Greek god of the sea, Proteus, the labor force in an organization can adapt to any new situations depending on the objectives of the management. This versatility is important because it provides the managers with an opportunity to choose between several organizational strategies. With a labor force that can morph to adapt to any new challenges in an organization, the management would be in a position to implement most of their plans without fear of potential threats and weaknesses. The management must also be flexible to change, they must have back up plans for every plan they implement. This would come in handy in case of changes in organizational environment. The management will be able to easily respond to changes.
It is clear that organizational environment changes often due to both internal and external factors. Therefore, the labor force and the management must be responsive to changes and be able to adapt as quickly as possible just like the mythical Proteus. The ability to quickly adapt to changes can define how successful an organization becomes in future.
