‘A Different Life: Growing Up Learning Disabled and Other Adventures’ is a highly acclaimed book written by Quinn Bradlee and Jeff Himmelman. Quinn shares how he came in this world with a hole in his heart and he had to undergo a number of surgeries when he was just three months old. For Quinn it was just a start and he suffered from a battery of sicknesses including migraine, seizure, and fevers. In the age of 14, he was diagnosed with Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome, a disorder that causes several other problems. Quinn openly shares that he was different from other normal children. This book has some very interesting things kike the book is written by a youngster who was suffering from Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome which caused him suffering from learning disorder too. Quinn shares all big and small moments of his life not only those are related to his health but also gives account of some interesting incidents that is considered very personal and secret. Quinn informs how he loosed his virginity on a Caribbean island, Saint Martin with a black girl. Quinn expresses his concern that people who suffer from VCFS or similar problems are not paid due attention. He suggests that such people should be duly heard and responded in order to make them feel good.
The book also includes the story of his parents. Being the parents of a young son who was suffering from a number of health related issue, they were very upset at times. Quinn describes how his mother became very emotional after he delivered a speech on learning disabilities at a conference. Quinn Bradlee went to two different colleges but unfortunately could not complete his graduation. Finally he went to a film school and there he found a passion for himself. He then made a film on Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome (VCFS). The film helped in raising money for the research work on VCFS.
