1. Title: The Sunny Day
B. Dimensions: Painting
C. Medium: Acrylic on canvas
D. Description: When I was a child, I would visit my grandmother's house often, as she would take care of me while my parents were working. Every time I visited, I saw this sunflower; its size and bright, vibrant colors would always catch my eye, and that is what I wanted to convey in this painting. I used acrylic to accent the sunflower's natural color and brightness, contrasting it against my grandmother's house in the back.

D. Description: One of my favorite games on Xbox is a racing game; I love the thrill of controlling a vehicle at high speeds. I am a big fan of the game, but the poorly designed joystick I had made it difficult to operate. This motivated me to design my own joystick for this game; I feel as though this joystick would provide enough comfort and aesthetic value that I might market it to the public.

B. Dimensions: Drawing & Painting
C. Medium: Watercolor & Conte
D. Description: One year, for my summer vacation, I traveled to Maine. I was entranced by the sights and sounds, and the environment in general completely enthralled me. One day, I traveled to a farm belonging to a family friend, where I saw bales of hay as far as the eye could see. I grabbed a handful, and was intrigued by how it felt and bundled together. I was then compelled to draw a snapshot of my experience in Maine; I set up a bundle of straw, my briefcase, and a bottle of wine that I found on the ground at that farm. Drawing this still life helped to express the clash of rural and urban that I often experienced that day.

B. Dimensions: 2D
C. Medium: Boonchae (Oriental Watercolor) on traditional Korean pape
D. Description: Andy Warhol is one of my favorite artists; his skill at printmaking and modern pop art are really interesting, and always fun to look at. I fell in love with his bright colors and use of repetition in his art gallery in Pittsburgh, and wanted to replicate that look in this images. I drew my glasses and printed six different images of them in different colors. This was meant to evoke the same kind of repetition and vividness as in his Campbell's Soup and Marilyn Monroe works.
9. Title: Snapshot
A. Year: 2010
B. Dimensions: Drawing & Painting
C. Medium: charcoal
D. Description: One day, while having a particularly lazy day, I opted to just work with shape, angle and form. I arranged a vase, my Canon digital camera, a clock, a plate, and a fan I brought from Korea into a tableau and started drawing. I placed this in my portfolio because I feel this is indicative of that same clash of cultures, as well as the old and the new, that I often feel living in America. The technology is in the forefront but on the sides, while the ancient and the exotic are in center background.
10. Title: Banana, Mirror, Vase
A. Year: 2010
B. Dimensions: Drawing & Painting
C. Medium: Charcoal & Penci
D. Description: I enjoy the contrast between different types of shapes - blending the natural with the unnatural, all the while comparing lines to curves and everything in between. This drawing was an attempt to practice and explore that contrast, with the sharp edges of the leaves contrasting with the ovular mirror. This is bordered by the curvy banana, which nonetheless tapers at each end. I find it visually pleasing to compare these shapes.
11. Title: Natural Memory
A. Year: 2010
B. Dimensions: Painting
C. Medium: Watercolor & Colored Pencil
D. Description: When I studied English in Canada, the place I lived was so beautiful and peaceful. There were lots of big trees and mountains everywhere. There was this giant huge tree in the school's backyard. I wanted to draw the tree before I went back to Korea for summer. With that in mind, I brought my art materials to school and started drawing. Every time I miss being in Canada or miss my friends who still live there, I just look at this picture and reminisce about that amazing time in my life. The peacefulness of the pastoral scene helps with that, and the leaning trees represent my constantly being pulled back to Canada.
