Education has always been very important for me because it provides an individual with the ability to think critically and to assess everything that is happening around him or her. Education teaches us how to gain, manage and apply knowledge that we get not only sitting in the class, but also while doing our day-to-day routine. It refers to any discipline one may think of. I never considered learning as memorizing material equal to learning as understanding the idea. Therefore, the choice of major is about assessing one’s interests and talents, but not about abilities, as understanding requires same efforts for marketing as well as education.
On my education path I tried myself in different fields of research. At first, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing that attracted me by the various aspects it included. Being a comparatively new phenomenon, marketing is now fundamental for the success of any company in the market. Its role in the performance of a business cannot be underestimated, and is indeed crucial. It includes evaluation and estimation of lots of factors that before were considered on a separate basis. Identification of target audiences, pricing, promoting, product placement and distribution are only a few among many more aspects, which a market manager deals with.
My Master’s Degree’s major was Educational Technology. I wanted to try myself in a new sphere to gain new knowledge and skills. I wanted to shift my attention from marketing to another field, and education became this field. I wanted to use my creativity and my energy for sharing my knowledge and I needed to know how I can do it professionally. Education Technology opened to me a new world of selfless people whose social responsibility and commitment was about teaching others, detecting and developing their talents and motivating them. Technologies only facilitated this process, while an individual still was at the core.
Today I am applying to a Ph.D. program in Marketing, having in mind that I will find a bridge between this field and educational technology. I have solid knowledge and work experience in both fields that may help me in finding how useful marketing can be in education as well as vice versa. I believe that marketing has a power to promote education to the new level. New technologies in the education can be promoted and popularized, that may change the perception people have of the higher education. They are already changing it by making online, distance and cross-border education available for everyone. At the same time, development of education can lead to further development of marketing, including invention of new concepts and ideas.
My goal is to find a missing ring between marketing and education technology, and I am willing to work hard looking for it. I believe that a Ph. D. program at Cleveland State University is a perfect opportunity for me to proceed with my ideas and aspirations. I am seeking a Ph.D. to gain knowledge that could help me in understanding how both fields of my expertise can be united. I feel that I still have what to learn in order to become a professional. I still have something to understand in order to apply my knowledge for the best of the society.
It is worth mentioning that I am extremely open-minded and communicative person. I learn quickly and like experiments that can bring a common good. I believe that having a teaching experience, I can bring new value to marketing that may widen its scope and develop new strategies. The combination of marketing and education is not a standard one, and I believe that this is my key competitive advantage. I am looking forward to making a new step in my academic career. I will gladly deal with all troubles and try all opportunities that may happen on my way to reach my goal.
