Adult education is a system that has been embraced by various countries to produce people who have better-working capabilities, have good family relations as well as forming the foundation for better citizenship (Rogers, 1). Adult education is a system that has been able to enhance the education levels for various individuals could not be able to get the core and the standard education. “A persons’ practice can be located in their history of literacy (Barton & Hamilton, 6)
This form of education is a system that incorporates all the individuals who have the age of sixteen years and above and who did not receive the necessary education. It is a system that also incorporates those people who have no basic requirement to either enroll in a School or even enrolled in a secondary school. The system also takes care of those individuals who do not have any document that corresponds to the higher levels of learning, with relation to the basic educational system of the country they are in. The adult education system also incorporates all those people who have the urge to know how to speak, read, and even have the ability to write the English language.
Division of the Adult Learning Program
The adult learning program is divided into various parts that help in the simplification of the duties of the officers that administer the system. The system has various departments such as the Adult Basic Education Adult High School as well as the GED Preparation. This will also include some English for Speakers of Other Languages, also known as ESOL. The two systems usually base their emphasis on the provision of basic skills that include reading, and writing.
These two skills usually open the door for the introduction of other disciplines such as the basic mathematical calculations. The programs also emphasize the need to introduce the learning of competency in the English language. The adult education system provides these skills to enhance the labor force of the people, making them better people in society, upon which others can rely on (Hinzen, 2).
Adult education was a system that was introduced to enhance the learning related capabilities, to which people want to improve. The system has been able to not only have a social development at the individuals’ level, but it has also been able to enhance economic development in the majority of the countries (Hinzen, 4).
Approaches To Improve the Adult Learning System
The adult education system has been able to provide development at the personal level, which has been able to enhance the potential of the people in the system. The adult learning system can be grouped into various categories that enhance the development of the whole system. In the majority of the countries, there has been the introduction of different approaches in the quest to improve the quality of the adult education offered by various schools.
Adult education should be looked into with the inclusive perspective, which usually looks into the whole community, with different demographics ranging from the young to the old, to enhance the adult education system. The school system should be able to address the various learning needs, which range from the provision of essential personal amenities as well as the general requirements for the learning process.
The schools should be able to include the schools for the physically challenges, that is, all the people in the society with disabilities, and who need not only basic education but also care. The schools should also be able to include the vocational training, which ranges from the in-service training for the people. The system should also be able to include a system that restrains the person who is unemployed in the society. The system should also be able to enhance the upgrading of skills techniques for those members who occupy the senior management.
Challenges Facing the Adult Education System
The adult educational system is usually faced with various challenges. These challenges range from economic, political, social as well as personal issues (National Academy of Sciences p 84). Some of the problems include the effect of the differences in the policy adoption by various countries that favor the development of the adult education system. Another challenge is that there is no universality in the application of the adult education system. This difference in the education system makes it very difficult for the people who have attained the adult education to be able to apply it in other states.
Various processes of social experimentations are implemented in the whole system. In the majority of the times, various government and education systems try to use multiple as well as a different rule for the assessment of the adult educational system, which usually suffers from numerous setbacks (Wanyama, 6).Other setbacks in the adult educational system are the unavailability of resources and finances that are required to streamline the whole process of the adult educational system. The quality of education in the majority of the countries is of little quality. This low quality makes the education of less value, and hence suffers a lot of competition from the other systems all over the world.
Solutions to the Challenges Facing the Adult Education System
Various approaches can be adopted so that the problems facing the adult education system are dealt with fully. Provision of a basic educational system that can easily be understood by each and everyone in the state is key to the development of the whole system. The government involvement is essential. The government gives guidelines as well as the rules that are supposed to be followed in the administration of the educational system (Olufunke 3).
Provision of funds is crucial for the development of the systems. The funds provided can be from the governmental sources, the general public, well-wishers, and faith organizations or even from personal contributions. The funds collected can be put to use, which includes the payments to the teachers, development of the structures within the schools, or the learning environments. The funds can be utilized for the purchase of other amenities, such as medicine, school buses, or even books. These amenities make the learning process smooth and successful.
Conclusion
Adult education can be said to be a success, because it has been able to enhance development, from the personal perspective of the national development. Adult learning is one of the major drivers to the economic enhancement in the whole world. People who never got the chance to have the primary education can be able to obtain their studies through the adult learning programs.
