Sub: Request for Weekly Help-A-Child-Read Day
Dear Sir,
I am an undergraduate in Education and my passion for teaching is only matched by my passion for making a tangible change towards equitable education. Through my students I have been exposed to issues that children face on a daily basis in their quest for education. Today many children are struggling to read and the most impacted are children who are living in poverty. They cannot afford compensating measures like extra tuition or technology assistance. I believe this is something that we can address as a community and that is why I am writing to you. Our neighboring area of YY requires attention in this specific issue and have asked for help in helping their children to read.
I hereby request that the library initiate a weekly Help-A-Child-Read Day to be conducted on Saturdays for a period of eight weeks. The library can announce the program and invite patrons and community members to volunteer for the program. On Saturdays between 10 AM and 12 PM volunteers shall go to the community hall at YY and read from books borrowed from the library. Children shall be divided into small groups by age. The library can invite volunteers to donate books as well. As a well-known establishment in our city, the initiative can be effective with your involvement.
I understand if the program cannot be scheduled immediately, but a response at the earliest would be most appreciated. I know fellow teachers who will be willing participants and am available for further discussions in person.
