Preferred Program of Study:
My Personal Statement to Take Up BS in Accountancy
I was born in a traditional Chinese family. Likewise, I attended a very traditional Chinese school. The lesson that my family and school taught me is that “practice makes perfect.” The only way I can improve my grades is to listen to lectures carefully and do more practices after class. The idea helped me to progress in my studies and I felt mostly interested in the accounting and economics disciplines. Afterwards, when I saw a website about the benefits of studying in an American Community College for students who do not have time to take SAT, I felt that I am the person who fits all of the its listed situations.
In the spring quarter of 2014, I started my college studies at Green River Community College. I always have time to discuss with my classmates my ideas. When I received their agreement, I felt that I am learning a lot. Furthermore, I gained confidence interacting with them. After earning my Associate of Art degree there, I planned to transfer in the University of Washington, where I could get my bachelor degree in accounting. I hope to do further study in the business field. I strongly believe that the education at UW would further improve my comprehensive ability. With my resoluteness and parental support, I can continue my study in your university, given the chance to do so. For me, studying in an American university plays a positive role in my personal, academic, and social life. I became a more fulfilled person as I acquired better learning opportunities and interpersonal competence.
Should I get admitted to your university, my intended major is accounting. I really want to become a certified public accountant in the future. I liked accounting as my major almost a year after I started my college life in Green River Community College. At first, I did not decide my major because I want to find the region I am interested in. After I participated in a training of being a Free Tax volunteer, I found my interest working in the accounting field. After the training, I decided to choose accounting class the next quarter. Through the accounting class, I learned the method of adjusting entries, for example. Every time I got the right number in the form, I felt confident. In the future, I want to be qualified to work as a real Free Tax Volunteer and help individuals with economic issue through my knowledge.
Further, after finishing my education, I want to become an international accountant. I hope to have learned already the complexity of the American accountancy system. I will then continue to apply my expertise by working on a full time basis. As I bring not only Chinese culture, I would have then enriched better my experience and absorbed much of the American culture, which would both be part of my balanced view about unity in cultural diversity. I would like to bring the knowledge I got from my education and my personal experience to my future work so that I can have harmonious inter-professional dealings with most, if not all, of my future colleagues and clients.
At present, I know UW have a very good intellectual and social community as an international university. It can help me to broaden my horizon more, which is the first step to my goal of working as an international accountant. In addition, I know UW has a very good business school or, specifically, a remarkable platform for me to enhance my knowledge and improve my competence in both my study and communication with other peoples. Furthermore, I know UW has various clubs like UWCSSA that I can join in. Hence, there would be a very good chance for me to improve my leadership skills and creativity in my future career.
In case I am not admitted to study in accounting, my second-choice major is Economics. I am interested in Economics because I already completed economic courses in my previous community college. I found economics quite challenging and motivating for me to analyze the reasons behind a variety of economic ups and downs. My career goal after I study in Economics is to work in business and financial consultancy.
I know that the various personal, academic, and social experiences are a very important part of my future working success in the accounting area. For example, during the time I prepared and led my team for the competition “Destination Imagination” in 2012, I spent all my free times after school collaborating with my group. The competition is writing a script and then performing it according to the theme our organizer gave to us. During our practice, I realized that other people should be considered in our performance. In other words, a well-done performance should show in front of the audience. With that successful performance, I arduously believe that I can bring all my experiences when I would work in the business field that requires good teamwork and leadership. Another experience worth telling here is when I started to learn to play violin since I was in grade one. Ever since, I never gave up practicing despite the hardship and challenges learning some parts of the music, which is already a part of my life until now. As such, I would most possibly bring hard work, patience, and excellence in my studies.
Kindly help me fulfill my dream by giving me the chance to be admitted in your university.
Thank you in advance!
