Introduction
Leadership is a process whereby one person organizes or directs a group of people in order to achieve a common target. A leader is a person who people can follow or assume his instractions.Successfull leadership can be defined as leadership whereby a common goal have been achieved in trying to pursue it.Failed leadership is a condition whereby a group, is not in a position to achieve its goal due to either failure by the leader or by the group itself. In the leadership process, one can either fail or succeed. Many leaders who have ever ruled in the world have failed and succeeded at some instances. In this context; we are going to focus on two world leaders; Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. We are going to focus on their styles of leadership and instances where they have experienced failed leadership and successful leadership.
Condoleezza rice is a renowned American diplomat. She was the 66th secretary of state in the United States the second during the reign of George bush. During her reign she fought for democracy and democratically led governments. In 1982, she changed her political party to republican from democrats. This was because of the simple reason that she disagreed with the democrats’ policy. ‘My father joined our party because the democrats would not register him to vote’. During her academic career at Stanford University, she was a professor who acquired many promotions. It was during this period that she got a hence to travel around the world and was appointed to various boards. She made into the history books by becoming the first lady minority to be a provost in Stanford University. After her tenure at the Stanford University, she became the national security advisor and that is when she got the nickname ‘warrior princess’. During this tenure, she spearheaded the fight for terrorism in the United States.
She was supposed to formulate a national security policy. She received an award on her hard work in august 2010. She was involved in the stabilization of Iraq and even was the first to campaign for and external president. Due to her advanced performance, she was given the docket of the secretary of state. During this time, she championed for democracy and reforms and the United States had to uphold to the basic rights. It was during this time that she was involved in many diplomatic efforts and lobbying for well-governed nations. She later declined to vie for the vice presidency in 2008. During her tenure in the docket of security, she criticized the intelligence unit for not sharing their information which could have led to the collective responsibility in fighting terrorism.
She championed for security amongst the various organs of security in the United States. She was on the front line in the fight against abortion and championed for the respect of human life. She discouraged any funds that are dedicated to promote abortion. Despite her position, she was often involved in some kind of discrimination like being denied hotel rooms and given bad food in the hotels. This made her fight discrimination with a lot of vigor.
Despite all this leadership struggles, she has received various setbacks in her leadership. She has received various critism whereby she was not allowed in some universities and her public speeches were disputed. She was criticized for letting the states prestige down she it declined during her tenure.
Another leader is Hillary Clinton who was also an American politician and a diplomat. She attracted many when her husband was nominated to the presidency by the Republican Party in 1990.she aided her husband’s campaigns through her critism of tammy Wynette’s view of women. Her husband was successfully elected which marked the beginning of her political career. She was the most empowered American’s first lady. She was appointed in the health care reform task force. She claimed that the employers should pay for their employees health covers. She spearheaded the restoration of historical items and sites which promoted American’s arts of work.
Clinton vied for the senate seat at New York which was disputed by critics arguing that she was not involved in its politics before. During this tenure she was in the front line in the fight for terrorism. She encouraged the use of military force to Iraq. During her second term in the senate she spearheaded the withdrawal of the American troops in Iraq. She voted in favor of the economic stabilization plan which she argued that it protected the rights of the Americans. After losing the presidency to Obama, she was appointed the United States secretary of state. She campaigned for strengthening of the United States military power and diplomacy. Clinton proposed the expandment of the international budget. She also championed for the expansion of the United States economics issues that pertain to the state department.
Clinton had also some failures in her leadership which made her to be the concern of major investigations in the United States. This was because they had lost most of their investments and had some conflicts of interest at some instances. She was accused in the firing of Whitehouse travel department employees and allegedly replacing them with friends.
These women leaders have wide experiences in leadership. They have struggled despite a lot of setbacks to attain economic and political stabilities. Despite their hard work, they experienced a lot of challenges but they fortunately sailed through.
