Classic English Literature: Wal-mart
Wal-Mart has become part of everyone’s lifestyle since it has made shopping a little bit easier and more fun. This is because one can find various items all under the same roof. Wal-Mart has branches all the over the world. The mart is known for selling products of very high quality, ranging from food stuffs, to clothes. The shopping mall is also known for paying very low prices despite the fact that it sells its items exorbitantly. However, this information is not reliable and can therefore be placed on a scale and arguments brought forward concerning the shopping mall.
There are claims that the shopping operates only in areas where people who are better referred to as the cream of the society live (Coster, and Karen 633, #15). This is not true since Wal-Mart malls can be found even in the remotest of places. The management of the mall has taken it upon themselves to ensure that even the less fortunate have access to most of the facilities and items only found in the urban areas.
Wal-Mart is accused of paying its employees very low wages, and that it does not provide jobs to its careers (Coster, and Karen 632, #4). This is arguable because the shop has a record of permanently hiring its employees. Those that work for the shop for a given period of time are even promoted to the posts of supervisors and managers. What else would one say of a managerial post other than call it a managing career?
Some publications published claims that paint Wal-mart as one of the most expensive malls in existence. An article even mimicked an advert that Wal-mart had placed in the papers “For the Lowest Prices” (Coster, and Karen 632, # 11). This accusation is a false one because clients still cloud the mall, making more and more purchases. More to that, they are able to keep their clients by allowing discounts on purchases made by the clients.
A day after Thanksgiving Day, Wal-Mart recorded low sales, news which its many critics received with much joy (Featherson 638, # 1). Investigations revealed that the low sales were because Wal-Mart did not give enough discounts to make their customers to shop more. However, this cannot be the only reason explaining the low sales. The low sales could also have been as a result of the bad economy, which has reduced the purchasing power of many people.
Most of the employees at Wal-Mart say that they started working there because they had shopped there a number of times and were therefore very familiar with the place (Featherson 640, # 9). They say that this has helped them serve their customers effectively because of the familiarity they have with the stores. This is very true on one side but is also disputable on the other end. This is because an employee does not have to be familiar with their place of work for them to deliver effectively. It takes the skills of the employee, not their familiarity with the environment
