1. Pieris mentions ‘baptism’ in the context of immersion of Jesus into the realities of Asian culture; which is religion and poverty. The present religious realm of Asian culture is driven by sin and enslavement to which Jesus, through his prophetic and self-effacing gestures should bring soteriology and liberation.
2. The main difference between the three models as described by Tan are; radical pluralism model focuses on the conscious identification with more than one religion and acceptance by the religious community as their member, whereas the model of internal reality states individual to hold two or more religions within oneself. Third model is of dual belonging which enables one to identify with several religions. The model of dual belonging is most helpful as it allows one to seek required values and beliefs in the religion without isolating them from other cultures.
3. The strength is that the person has clarity on the beliefs and is not confused over the religion. Krishna reconciled his Hindu origin with Christ and unraveled the path to inner peace. The major challenge faced by an Hindu following Christ is that he lies in the middle of two religions. He doesn’t remain Hindu and is not a Christian, moreover has to deal with the contempt of family and other Hindus.
4. Jones realized that Christianity has never been conveyed in the right terms and the approach of defeating the other’s religion and prove one’s superior has led to arguments. Christ would have to be presented in Indian manner and segregated from Christianity to be more effective. Jones believe that it’s important to communicate to Indians that the God whom you know so little and whose character you are aware so little is like Christ.
