The Licbbach and Zuckeman give a clear insight on the political science by distinguishing politics into two major aspects, comparative politics and international relations. The comparative politics generally focuses on the politics inside a particular country, dealing with aspects such as political parties, elections, judicial system and revolutions. On the other hand, the international relations focus on the relationship between different countries, dealing with aspects such as war, trade, foreign aid and foreign policy. Licbbach and Zuckeman have also shed light to some of the basic structures and vocabularies that are applied in the comparative politics and in political science. To comprehend this scenario, Licbbach and Zuckeman have categorized these ideas into three basic categories; ideals, analytical concept and methods.
The aim of Licbbach and Zuckeman is to provide a clear comprehension of the political science particularly comparative politics. Comparative politics is considered as a subfield that compares the hunt of power across different countries. Therefore, this comparison can assist the readers to develop arguments about effect and cause by establishing evidence from across time and space. The authors pave a way for the reader to understand why politics is as a result of dispersed power among various people while in other countries power is concentrated on particular few individuals.
The book has portrayed contemporary debates and classic ideas that are able to describe the comparative politics in the modern world. In my point of view, the book is able to integrate contemporary scholarship and theoretical works for undergraduate to pursue the comparative politics courses. The books teaches student to approach comparative politics in a skeptical perspective and consider those ideas they believe in and take for granted. By reading and comprehending the book, a student is able to develop a full knowledge about comparative politics and political science in general.
