Introduction
Human resource management is the practice of allocating resources appropriately to achieve the firm’s objectives. Among its elements is taking care of the human resource by ensuring the employees are well represented and taken care of in order to yield positive returns in driving the firm towards its goal.
Article 1: Employee Engagement
Dr. Joe Folkman the president of Zenger Folkman says that developing the strength of leadership is important to helping employees abandon the prison mentality and enjoy happy and productive work (HRM Guide, 2012). According to him, making the average worker happy will increase their commitment. However, what makes people happy theoretically is different from the reality. This can be achieved through inspiration to high level efforts, energize them achieve exceptional result, create a good working environment and making them work to achieve what firstly was thought impossible.
The president says that the progression of the employees will be achieved if they feel that they are appreciated by the company. Employees need positive experiences at work and home this will show that the company is supporting them and sharing their experiences makes them able to deal with things at work.
He defines employee engagement as a feeling of engagement and engagement behavior (HRM Guide, 2012). For there to be this engagement, employees the management should create right conditions that enhance this engagement.
This article deals with the appropriate way that the management can deal with the employee to utilize their potential by being fully engaged in the company affairs. This will ensure the company achieves its goals and objectives. The course of human resources entails the utilization of resources (HRM Guide, 2012) . This article gives a practical way where employees are fully utilized through engagement which gives them confidence and opportunity to be productive.
My decision to choose the article is its relevance to the course and the practical analysis given by the company president. This makes it ideal for a HRM student in studying and learning from experienced managers in the field. The article is reflective to the course scope and gives a good example on how to incorporate employees through engagement.
Article 2: Workplace Flexibility Improves Employees' Health Behavior
Results are the most important aspect of measuring workers productivity other than the time spent in the office. This will create a good working environment that foster healthy behavior and well-being. This is according to a study by the University of Minnesota (HRM Guide, 2011). The study claims that time flexibility encourage employees to take care of themselves which in result yield better results at work.
Flexibility leads to healthier lifestyle. The study says that work place flexibility is important to employee health. The study found out that participants got an extra hour sleep before work, they manage their health and it increased their sense of schedule control and reduced the conflict between work and family time; this lead to improved lifestyle and more production in the work place.
Human resource management deals with employees’ welfare through ensuring a better working environment that will enable them be productive (HRM Guide, 2011). This article involves a study that was conducted to establish the relation between a better environment and employees’ productivity. The article therefore is within the HRM scope that will ensure the employees welfare in order to maximize their productivity.
I chose the article is its relevance to the course and the validatable information as represented by the research findings. The article is a good reflection of good management in taking care of the employees’ welfare.
Conclusion
In conclusion therefore the practice of Human Resource best practice or elements therefore include taking good care of the employees by ensuring they are motivated and positively utilized to achieve the firm objective. However, these can be achieved if their welfare is well taken care of and they get enough time to rest and their lifestyle improved or made better.
