Overview
The success of any business organizations largely depends on the quality and leadership style employed by managers. Ideally, this paper presents a critical review and analysis of the leadership styles applied by Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg in managing Apple Inc and Facebook respectively. The analysis is based on answering two critical questions.
Question 1
According to a critical examination of the two 60-minutes interview with the two CEOs, it is precise that there is a significant different between the leadership styles applied by Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg. Steve‘s leadership style is regarded as relatively complex. For instance, Steve is seen as a transformation leader who was charismatic enough to solicit legion of customers and employees in the inexorable hunt of his aspirations. Moreover, some regard Steve as an autocratic leader; he always thought that what he did was right. Mark Zuckerberg, other the other hand, is viewed as an individual who applies a carefree leadership style. Ideally, Mark seen as impulsive; he has a reckless attitude that results to making quick or imprudent decisions. In my view, Mark Zuckerberg carefree leadership style is not healthy for his organization (Facebook), and should therefore imitate Steve’s leadership style.
Question 2
The adoption of transformation leadership style by Facebook’s CEO will be crucial towards the achievement of strategic leadership. This is because; this type of leadership style draws on classified capabilities and approaches to leadership, which create distinct benefits for the organization (Zellman, 2013). Evidence reveals that a transformation or charismatic leader often possesses a high degree of integrity, precisely sets and communicates his goals to followers. Moreover, by applying this type of leadership style, Mark Zuckerberg will be able to inspire his followers, making them visualize beyond their own interest and embark on the needs and interest of the organization (Lussier & Achua, 2010). Further, through transformational leadership, Mark Zuckerberg will be able to stimulate work and embrace motivation for his followers, which is a vital element in strategic leadership.
