This news article is about the anti-Islam rally, which was held in Dearborn, Michigan. The public protesters assembled to complete one of the planned 20-weekend rallies near mosques across the United States. It was a protest over their opposition to the coming of Syrian refugees, as well as against what they claim to be the danger brought about by the Muslim faith. The rally was met with counter-protest that made the city officials concerned about the event because both groups “brandished AK47 or AR15 rifles”(Warikoo). Nevertheless, the protest went on peacefully and the message that stuck came from the word on one of the counter-protesters:
“ liberty is for everyone, that liberty has no borders.. Just because someone is of a certain religion does not mean they are dangerous” (qtd. in Warikoo).
Analysis:
This article can be considered as logical because it can be substantiated with a clear premise and an evidence is readily available to defend the idea. The argument in the article is based on the premise that: 1) Dearborn, Michigan is a residence of many Muslims and it is not considered a radical place, and 2) The protesters were met peacefully by counter-protesters who were generally comprised of Muslims. The conclusion, therefore, is that not because someone belongs to the Muslim faith does not mean that they are dangerous. Accordingly, this type of logical reasoning is considered an inductive reasoning. It is considered to be so because the premises provide a reasonable support for the conclusion. While the supportive idea or premises are not entirely conclusive, they were able to provide a usable basis for the conclusion.
