There are various factors that come into play when deciding the kind of car that one wants to buy. One of these factors is reliability (Consumer reports, 1). There is no single individual who wants to buy a car that would be disappointing. Therefore, many people prefer buying cars that can withstand different weather conditions as well as different terrains. Furthermore, the car should be fit for the purpose. It is for this reason that there are different types of cars. For instance, there are the 4WDs which are good for rough terrains. Other cars are designed for family comfort such as the sedans, while others are designed specifically for sporting activities. Similarly, there are those cars whose design is luxurious; hence they are fit as a luxury but not as a necessity. All these factors show that there are different cars for different purposes. Therefore, an individual makes a choice depending on the design that is best reliable for his purpose. Car producers also understand this factor, and therefore produce various designs of automobiles in order to satisfy the various needs of the consumers.
Environmental consideration is another factor that greatly influences the kind of vehicles that people use. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) (1), the type of fuel consumed by an automobile and the rate at which it emits the fumes into the atmosphere greatly affects the kind of car that an individual opts to have. It is also for this reason that automobile companies are aiming at producing an automobile that can use ‘green fuel’. If this comes through, then the world may be on its way t getting new automobile designs in the market.
Vehicle performance has also been a subject of evaluation, where people want cars that can be easily managed and also easily controlled. It is for this reason that the car models have moved from the manually controlled gears to the automatic gear systems. All these have been done in a bid to improve the user friendliness of the cars. Consumer reports (1) observe that there are plans underway to come up with an electric car. This means that the automobile will be highly efficient and will also go a long way in ensuring that there is environmental conservation. As such, the model will help in killing two birds with one stone; conserving the environment and making a car model that fits the consumers’ needs.
In conclusion, this essay has evaluated an automobile as one of the consumer products. As a measure of analysis, the essay has looked at the features and considerations that have seen an evolution in the automobile industry. The major factors include reliability, efficiency, environmental friendliness as well as ease of use. From the discussion, it can be seen that what drives people to buying a given automobile is the purpose for which they need it. Therefore, an automobile that best fits the purpose and likes of the consumer ends up being the car of choice. It is no wonder that there are different kinds of cars since people have different needs.
