The main reason for choosing this particular topic is to shed more light on the impacts of food borne diseases and outline the measure set in place to remedy the epidemics and encourage a healthy environment for the people. It is also among the recent events that have hit the headlines of the public health industry and people require to be well informed of this kind of emerging ethics.
Food borne diseases has cause millions of American to be either hospitalized or losing their lives. The trends of its effects become a public health burden thus demanding for immediate action. As a result the food safety modernization act was enacted into law. Food safety system in place has made it simpler for FDA to handle the challenges in the health sector. Signing of this law gave FDA the more enforcement powers to ensure higher rates of coming together with a common objective of developing standards that regulate or rather monitor the process of producing safety food. (Nelson, 2012)
It entitles the FDA with new mandates and authorities such as a legislative mandate to ensure there is a science based mechanism and control of the food supply. This means that food facilities would have to first evaluate and determine the hazards that could contaminate the safety of food in supply. Also are requiring to state specific preventive step that would minimize the threats.
The producers and processors had to be inspected on regular basis and a thorough scrutiny of their industrial records. But most importantly is performing a test of the food by a credited laboratory to determine and ensure that they have met the required high quality standards. (Williams, 2007)
Modernization act gave FDA the power to order for a mandatory recall in situation where a company fails to comply recall unsafe food and can also go ahead to detain products that are found to be violating the law. The way they ensure that unsafe foods do not get in the reach of the public is by suspending any registration done. For it efficiency it should be accountable to the public if there any inconvenience therefore it established a reliable system that monitor track all the supply in the market both imported and domestic. (Nelson, 2012)
Public health is the priority number one in the enactment of this act therefore it has to do everything in its capacity to provide hazard free environment. For broader coverage within the country they merge or form a partnership with other related government agencies. FDA thus has a role in coming up with steps to leverage and improve safety food defending the capacities of local agencies and foreign states. (Williams, 2007)
The future of the public health will be positive affect by this act in a variety way. Firstly the death rate as a result of food borne disease would decrease at a recommendable rate and on the hand cases of illness would reduces because the causing factor has been eradicated. Food safety across the state would at the long run lead to a productivity nation with reliable labour force.
Food and drug administration food safety act has improved the general condition in the entire healthcare industry having a manageable numbers of patients in the facilities due to the reduction of illness cases and outbreaks of disease. It has promoted the international relations on matters of the public heath from their partnership in seeking for lasting solutions. (Nelson, 2012)
