Advantages
The canned program has some advantages. The technical support is free because the installing company gives the care. It is easy to get the software since it is got off the shelf and no need for customization. The expense is minimal compared to customized software since the main cost involved is licensing ("Custom Software compared to Canned Software Solutions, 2013).
Disadvantages
The program is advantageous, but it has some disadvantages. The software does not allow for customization; hence, the need for user training and can be expensive. Problems experienced with the system are handled within the manufacturers’ schedule, not yours, and this can cause a delay. Expansion of the program is not allowed, and this may make the firm have two or more systems, which may cause redundancy in knowledge entry. Once the software is installed, the firm has to alter its workflow to ensure it is as per the program, and this may cause discomfort among the users.
Response to Classmate One
According to my classmate, a canned program has its advantages and disadvantages. The core benefit is that the program is cost saving since the software is bought with materials that are useful in the implementation; hence no need for outsourcing people for implementation. The drawback for the canned system is because it is outsourced; it may differ from the development plan of the firm and that of the producing company and may be difficult to implement it in the branches of the organization. Some people may feel the program is insensitive to their needs and may have challenges in its acceptance.
Response to Classmate Two
The advantage is that the program is already done; hence, no need for new ideas when it is used in health industry and saves implementation time. The disadvantage is that the ideas of the program are already set by the manufacturer, which makes it difficult to accommodate new issues in a firm.
