Talking about myself is not easy, especially in such circumstance as when I have to use this to shape someone’s opinion about me, and when that opinion determines my fate. The other challenge is knowing what is right to mention, and what should be left out. It makes me nervous thinking that I may leave out important details, or say something that maybe necessary. Even though I feel proud of my achievements and am happy to share them with the world, I am less confident that the experience I have is sufficient for the kind of jobs that I will be looking to start off with. I hope to get internship opportunities to build up on this experience, which would make me be more open and confident sharing my experience. It is indeed hard for me to talk about myself with the thought that I am judged by what I say. I have had a few opportunities to sell my ideas when looking for support from fellow students; however, this does not equal a personal speech in a job scenario. I have also had a chance to talk about myself when looking for internships and part-time jobs, which I think has helped me build my confidence.
A good confident personal pitch is a great selling point for a candidate, and an opportunity to convince the listener that one is worth further consideration. Confidence indicates to the listener that one knows what they are talking about. It also gives a sense of authority in the targeted area. A confident pitch might make a difference in whether one is hired or not.
