A romance story packed with the thrilling experience of keeping one safe from the hands of the law; this is what Casablanca is about. Released under the direction of Michael Curtiz in 1942, the theme of this movie captured the attention of several viewers and had them thinking of how much their love would be able to contend with the challenges that the main character, Rick, have had to undergo for the sake of making sure that the love of his life is safe. As an owner of the Casablanca Café, Rick was presented in the movie as a well-kept man, an independent individual who was likely contented about his life. However, everything changes when an old flame comes to life. Seeing the girl he loved once in his past life held by another man and is being sought after by the law, Rick is caught in the middle of an almost impossible decision.
The treatment to the movie was rather thrilling as the lights and the focus of the camera primarily aimed to highlight the emotional value in each scene. The characters’ facial expression and body language were among the elements that were used to add in non-verbal scripts that made the whole presentation more exciting for the viewers. The director basically wanted to make sure that the audience would be able to relate to the story, allowing them to engage in the twists and turns of the situation that the characters are involved in. This, in a way, could be noted as the most effective strategy that the director used to make sure that the viewers would stick to the story up until it ended. One specific matter about the movie is that it was able to balance romantic scenes with the thrilling situations in the story. Such balance made it more reflective of what the human factor is in each scene, pointing out how such events could be relatively connected to the personal lives of the viewers. One of the greatest and most celebrated films of its time, Casablanca has opened the doors to a distinct representation of stories in a cross-related genre that is most likely followed by other modern directors today.
