Introduction
Management is a task that brings together the various aspects of the roles of managers. In particular, the tasks performed by managers in organizations are quite huge because it is essential that a person is courageous enough to deal with the various views and characteristics of people that make up the workforce of the organization (Rice, 2013). Therefore, the analysis of the effects of the management theories on the management roles of managers is a timely analysis that requires adequate time and resources for the investigation of the various aspects of the subject.
Part 1
The analysis will incorporate a case scenario and bring out the theories that guide the managerial process by relating the same top the real life situations in which managers are required to have extra skills to enable them to execute their roles effectively. As a result, the research will focus on a relationship between the case scenario, and the real life managerial process for any organization.
In addition, the effects of the theories on the roles of the managers are the major point of the study because there is need to focus on the development of the knowledge about the various aspects of the theories as well as how they contribute to the changes observed in the managerial process since over thirty years ago.
Noteworthy is that, it is evident that there exists a difference between the management in the past thirty years and the management role in the 21st century (Rice, 2013). As a result, it becomes an issue of concern to analyze the effects of the organizational theories on the managerial roles as well as the changes observed in the same aspect of the profession, over a significant duration.
Furthermore, Galaxy Toys is a company that manufactures the toys. The company came into existence in 1956, when the decision materialized an agreement on its birth emerged in the minds of George Jepson and his wife. It grew quite fast because the demand for its items went up, leading to significant increase of the purchases per day. It was lucky enough to get the task of manufacturing and selling the NASA toys that earned a lot of fame in the United States during 2009.
Bart's managerial style was quite unique and appropriate for the organization because it led to the improvement of performance through improved provision of services for its clients. The management skills imparted by Bart changed the way the toy assembly process took effect, and the same method made the shipping process for the toys quite easy.
In that connection, the organization has been able to incorporate the state of the art technology in the process to increase production. The company had a two-year goal, which could only be achieved through the incorporation of the technological expertise with the production.
Additionally, the production time was limited to maximize the material for the production of the toys, as well as increasing the rate of production of the same. However, the integration of sustainability and innovation will lead to a greater improvement in the same context (Rice, 2013). The company currently treats all employees as a team that works together for the performance of the organization in the execution of its commercial roles in the society. The company emulates a culture that brings decision-making process closer to the people mandated to implement it, thus empowering more people as well as motivating others.
Bart had a keen understanding of the managerial process, and it helped him focus on efficiency of the system. The same technique entailed the hiring of new workers to improve efficiency of the process (Rice, 2013). Ideally, the management of the companies in the contemporary era applies the scientific management theory, which is incompatible with the technology of the 21st century. To be specific, the philosophy that marked the epitome of production in the past has continued to fail to achieve the required managerial standards in the organizational setting.
Moreover, there has been a legacy of declining rate of production over time, which associated with the philosophy "production first, people second". It is a philosophy that does not auger well with the views as well as the feelings of the workforce because it shows that the management of the company focuses on making money without adequate consideration of the working conditions as well as the lives of the people.
The scientific management theory leads to dissatisfaction in the workplace and a deterioration in the values of commodities results, leading to the loss of customers and a perpetual decline of the company's power to sustain itself in the very competitive business world. There was a lot of ambiguity in organizations as well as the increase in diversity of both views and decisions.
Secondly, there exists the bureaucratic theory that entails an initiative to reduce the ambiguity as well as the diversity that continues to derail processes in organizations (Rothaermel, 2015). It focuses on defining the conspicuous limits and boundaries of control and authority relative to any organization. The theory calls for the introduction of the hierarchical structure of authority.
The fact the organization took a new direction in terms of the management, shows that Bart realized that the managerial know-how needs to be revised (Rothaermel, 2015). He considered bringing together the rest of the managers to discuss the way forward, and most particularly on how to improve the status of the organization. Various challenges have derailed the operations of the organization, some of which including competition, advanced technology, and a high demand for the employee management taking part in the process. Therefore, the culture of Galaxy changed completely.
Based on the research, the management theory appears more mechanistic and rigid, an act that leads to the system being apparent. The theory tries to purport that the motivation of people to work is a function of economic benefits. The inference is false, and that is why most managers who apply the same theory fail to meet the standard managerial know-how because they are misled by the few factors that the theory entails (Rothaermel, 2015). Therefore, the application of the theories in the managerial process should involve a keen scrutiny of the process, to ensure that the manager is not misled to apply the outdated mechanisms in the managerial process.
Bart's management style is unique from the time he joined Galaxy toys. He was a person who can take issues to his thought and try analyzing them based on his context and experience. In particular, Bart is conservative at the beginning because the managerial skills did not change when he entered Galaxy toys managerial position. He is a focused manager, who takes situations as they unfold, and analyze them hence coming up with a solution at the end.
Based on the theorist discussed above, the style of management applied by Bart is the affinitive style because he took an initiative to bring people together, and reorganized the management for a better position to take-off. People were more important than the task, as opposed to the past. The manager emphasized on good personal relationships among employees and tried to make people happy through motivation.
After the shift, Bart adopted a participative managerial position; there was a motivation process for the employees and offering rewards to them. Additionally, for the company to improve, the decision-making process must involve a subdivision into teams that are manageable and capable of emulating the continuous process of change.
The contingency theory best defines the inference because it entails an evolution of the organization to meet the requirements of strategy. There is a unique way in which each organization prepares to fit into its environment. Therefore, Bart emulated the contingency theory by defining the environment for the company and working towards a better performance through the introduction of the skills that are powerful enough to turn down the effects of the challenges that created the significant form of turbulence to the operations of the organization.
The comparison of the two schools of thought involves the fact that, at the beginning of the managerial task in Galaxy toys, Bart was sticking to the previous managerial knowledge (Hayes, 2014). However, in wake of the managerial challenges, he took a different perspective and started to operate in a manner defined by the scope of the challenges encountered.
In contrast, the manager was able to conquer the hardships, by sticking to the beliefs and knowledge of how to manage to avert the crisis that derailed the operations of the organization (Hayes, 2014). The manager focused on the promising aspects of the process, for a solution that will sustain the company for a long time. Therefore, the techniques used were necessary and efficient.
Part 2
Joyce will demonstrate the approaches to her job, and develop the understanding of operating as a manager (Hayes, 2014). Through the challenges faced daily, the new manager will develop the skills to run the company based on the challenges that arise. Therefore, the demonstration of her skills is only possible by the use of the knowledge to avert the hard situations that befall the process.
The new approach to the job will change the production as well as the shipping departments because they will be required to emulate good managerial skills for the execution of the services adequately and observing quality (Hayes, 2014). As a result, the production and shipping departments at the headquarters will have a hard time because they will be required to show a high level of expertise. The same departments are the most effective in the organization hence their scope of operations should be distinctive of the situation.
In conclusion, the management of the Galaxy toys company offers a scenario that is applicable to any other organization across the world. Most organizations face the same challenges as Galaxy toys, and the managers tend to change regularly for a better performance of the organization. The new managers that take the job after the departure of their predecessors need to be careful not to finalize operations, by failing to save the company from dissolving. Some of the techniques used by various managers to return operations to the normal level are not general but unique and that is the reason as to why most of the managers fail to prevent dissolution of the business. However, the management of Bart and Joyce, for the company, was necessary because they were knowledgeable in terms of managerial background, to execute their roles in a big company, and in challenging environments like the one encountered in galaxy toys.
