Introduction
The reason that George knew John very well and that they were very good friends, gave him the morale to work out a plan to help him. Being a manager in an organization, means that john had worked in that company for a very long time and he had won the trust of his employer. John also introduces his friend George to the same job and he was hired. This shows that John had positively impacted his name in that given organization. John does not value his job any more but money has made a way into his mind to ruin his destiny. Perhaps for the little pay he has been receiving from his employer or the greedy that has suddenly overpowered him. Though George knows John very well as a friend and his manager, he is faced with a very big task of convincing his friend how stealing is bad and how he can repay backs the money he stole from the organization. However, beside the task, George is has made a decision to persuade his friend to quite stealing and return whatever he has stolen.
Stealing is mainly taking what does not belong to you however closely related you are to the owner. If a child picks a pen from the supermarket, he/she might invoke the wrath of the shopkeeper and as such he/she might be barred from entering the shop again or even coming near that shop the second time. In addition, the mother of the child has to pay for the damages caused by the child. John’s employer might decide to get him arrested and face charges in the court of law especially now that he had become a frequent thief. George should continue to put sense into the ears of John on the negative repercussions of stealing not only in the place of work, but also at his own house.
Stealing will makes somebody nervous and stressful. After stealing, relieve may come but for a while a lousiness feelings will follow later to remind you that you have done the wrong thing. Stealing is accompanied by several lies because the culprit will want to cover up for his/her sins and may not want other people around him to know. Such lies will lead John to much more problems and guilty feelings.
Stealing may cause someone to be embarrassed. For-instance John may be caught and scolded in by his manager right before his fellow workmates. He will ashamed because he will feel dim-witted and abused. He may lose his friends like George, worried that he may go to jail or even lose his fellow managers. Stealing is everybody’s issue and not individual. It causes a huge problem to everybody in the family. More store managers might be employed to guard the stores against John or buy more padlocks for fear that he had duplicated the previous keys. This will be unnecessary spending to the organization that had given him food and shelter for such a long time. His family will luck the basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing once he is removed form his position because of stealing. George should instill a sense of fear into John’s mind for him to resign from stealing. The trust he will loose he might not be able to recover it any more in life time. He might not get any other job elsewhere for he will have the label “The thief”. John lacks a sense of belonging o that specific organization because he cannot be stealing if he knew that the company was as good as his. He should feel part of that organization which he has worked for many years. Therefore, George’s duty is to inseminate the sense of oneness into his friends mind. He should see that company’s property is as good as his because he had been trusted to manage it. John might not understand that stealing is bad. George should not assume that he knows right and wrong and that he should rectify his behavior automatically. He should not condemn him for his previous actions but he should teach him the good values and how being good and obedient manager will earn him promotion and more salary. Being good to the company will win the heart of everybody on his side and more respect and trust will be accorded to him. John might be lacking self- control. He might have started this habit right from his childhood. To him it could be something that lives within him and removing it needs proper counseling and care. He might be feeling that taking something from his organization, he should not ask anyone since he was the manager. Therefore, George should try to understand is point view before counseling.
People steal for various reasons. John’s stealing habit might be as a result of aping a friend who had stolen huge sum of money and he/she was living a luxurious life although with cases in courts of law. There is a possibility that John is stealing to make more money like his friends or even surpass them. Such peer pressures might be dangerous to him if he is not controlled through counseling. George should strive to know John’s friends and how they have impacted him either positively or negatively. He can know this from the comments and statements that John makes concerning his friends. Also John might be stealing because he feels a vacuum of lack in him. He might feel that he should steal to cover that gap between him and lack. He might be Angry with the company, sad or jealous of the owners of the company. Therefore, in as much as George may want to tame John from stealing, he should sit to know the kind of fire that is burning inside him. John might be stealing to please his children or his dear wife. He might be upset because his wife had labeled him “Incapable” and that he is striving to be the “capable” but for this reasons and rationales, John should know that stealing is not the solution. George should advice John that he can not get away with evil it will come back to him some day.
Psychotherapists, parents and guardians can use various methods to advice people who are addicted to stealing. For-instance, George may use a soft tone to advice John to stop stealing. He may counter every negative reason with a positive reason. For-instance, John might wonder how he will repay back all the money he had stolen from the organization and George may come in to introduce an idea of friends’ contributions including him or borrowing an overdraft from the bank to clear his debt. Thirdly, George can use the counter argument criteria where he will state his reasons and back them with facts and figures why John should quit stealing given John’s side of view. George also may opt to refute John’s reasons for stealing without giving any necessary reasons.
Conclusion
In conclusion, stealing habit is a crime punishable in the court of law but thieves steal for various reasons better known to them. Police and other law enforces should seek to understand reasons as to why a certain individual stole. They should not rush to convict someone without proper investigation. George can only succeed to persuade John to quit stealing only if he understands his problems and tries to identify with them.
