The various theories that relate to child development are very interesting especially due to the fact that most of them possess various approaches of the manner in which they can be attained. However, it is succinct to note that they all aim at attaining positive child development in the long run since the manner in which a child grows up, reflects their future character as an adult. This brings out the implication that it is essential to assess all the various theories, and ascertain which one is the best to implement during the parenting process. The best approach may depend on the characteristics of the parent, or even, the development of the child.
The most interesting theory that I came across is the Lawrence Kohlberg theory of child development. This theory is known as the moral development approach of parenting. This theory has three pivotal steps that are in included in the approach. The three levels of morality encapsulate different approaches of the Kohlberg’s theory. They deal with the stages that come before and after conventional morality. The first level that highlights the prior level of conventional morality is where a child may behave well just to be rewarded, and afterwards, they are able to follow rules because they decipher that it is essential for the community at large.
Thereafter, they are able to follow all principles and ethics to the latter in a beneficial manner. These stages depict the reality of a child’s development and their process in learning and deciphering the vital nature of obedience in life. I can implement the approaches of this theory towards my siblings by first enlightening them on the mere importance of doing the right things. This way they will act accordingly and gradually do so for their own benefit as they continue to learn its essentiality towards life.
