There are so many types of geopolitical communities within which a person can live. One such community is a municipality, a township or some other local authority. Geopolitical communities are communities that come into being as a result of the institution of boundaries and legal structures. The reason as to why the communities are referred to as geopolitical is because they are described by physical or geographical borders, within which certain laws apply (Hunt, 2009). Essentially, a geopolitical community is a group of people that share a common jurisdiction and are within the same geographically defined region.
Fundamentally, a phenomenological community refers to a grouping of individuals brought together by some common factor. Examples of phenomenological communities to which one can belong include religions groups, political parties, social networking groups et cetera. The factors that could create phenomenological communities include religious beliefs, traditions, expectations, political ideology as well as circumstances (Sines et al, 2009). For instance, in the field of medicine, there exist such communities as the HIV/AIDS community. This is a community of those people suffering from the HIV pandemic but has chosen to encourage one another in giving life a positive approach. The principal reason as to why such communities are referred to as phenomenological is because the people are bound together by some phenomenon and not necessarily but geographical borders.
The major challenges that nurses may face when working with different communities revolve around the fact that different communities have different expectations, which in most cases are so dissimilar. This way, the nurses find it difficult to adjust during the transitional period. This may hinder their ability to deliver quality services to the citizenry. Other challenges include such things as language barriers, taboos and traditional beliefs as well as different religious beliefs that may extend to such things as gender (Hunt, 2009). For instance a male nurse cannot handle a female patient in the Islamic community, something which is acceptable in other religions. One principal benefit of working with various communities is the fact that a nurse gets exposed to various cultures, something that prepares professionals to work in various places.
The primary challenges of working for similar communities is the fact that one community will expect the nurses to deliver precisely the same manner they did in the previous community, something that may cause problems in the event that the nurses do not have enough resources by the time they are handling the second community. Additionally, working with similar communities can make a nurse make unfounded assumptions about the second community, something that may cause social problems (Sines et al, 2009). Even so, working for the same community can make a nurse lack professional exposure, something that can inhibit career growth. However working with the same community has the primary advantage that the nurse gets to perfectly understand the social expectations and practices of the people. This way, the nurse learns how to deal with various members of the community.
Among the primary solutions to the challenges is the fact that the community based nurses should endeavor to learn the practices and expectations of the community before embarking on their mission. Additionally, the authorities should provide the nurses with guides or people that are familiar with the peculiar beliefs of the people in the community. This way, such barriers as language barriers and conflicting expectations are eliminated effortlessly.
