Question 1
Behavioral theory- Self-confidence
Contingency theory- positive attitude
Contemporary theory- Openness to experience
I would always want to have my team motivated and focused on the success of the company, and that is where my self- confidence will be utilized. At the same time, I will have to exhibit a positive attitude even when the results look grim. It is of importance that a good leader always remains open to suggestions to more experienced team members.
Question 2
Managers and leaders are different. Whereas managers have subordinates who answer to them because of their seniority, leaders have subordinates because their job dictates that but will remain at the front as others follow them in their pursuit of the success of their organization (Torkildsen, 2005).
Effective leaders are expected to be charismatic and appealing so as to show their followers that their effort is more of a passion than a job. Good leaders also have to be good with people and understanding because through that they can command the attention of those they lead (Torkildsen, 2005). As for good managers, they have to be authoritarian (Torkildsen, 2005). Because they are paid to make things happen, they have to be commanding in that they can tell subordinates what they do, and their word stands.
Perhaps the best example of a good leader is Warren Buffet. The 83-year-old CEO of Berkshire Hathaway has cultivated a value- based and hands- off kind of leadership that has given his employees room to work under no pressure but use teamwork as a secret towards achieving the best results. A good example of a good manager can be seen in Jack Ma, the CEO of Alibaba Group. He used brilliant management where he made employees think big and work hard towards achieving their personal dreams and those of the company.
