Social psychology refers to the psychological study of social occurrences, interactions among social set ups and its influence on individuals and the society at large. Social psychology aims at understanding the cognitive characteristics of social behavior as they occur in society. It utilizes scientific processes, the social behavior of individuals and how it is influenced around other people. The paper discuses the following aspects of social psychology and its application to political campaigns;
The persuasive power
In politics, one has to sell his/her ideas to the electorate in order to acquire the necessary votes. In social psychology, one has to be well persuasive to convince people to buy their ideas and policies.
This refers to the phenomenon that the larger the number of people within a specific occurrence the lesser the chance of action. In elections, a participant flagged by many observers, reduces their winning chances.
Affection and attraction
This ideally refers to a person’s aura and presentation. An attractive contestant who displays affection to the afflicted electorate, will tend to draw a larger number of voters during the campaign rather than a person who is less or not attractive but with good ideas.
Non verbal communication
Such include the dress code, the posture and even the gestures a candidate uses can influence the electorate in their choice of candidate.
Leadership
This is the quality of a person to guide and direct others. The electorate will decide on whom to vote for and choose as their incumbent leader.
