I chose to write about the character of David because he is held up as a model of obedience in the Christian faith even though he committed a huge sin with Bathsheba. This teaches Christians that there is redemption after a mistake or a sin. It is this hope that keeps millions of Christians going around the world.
David is important to the Christian and Jewish faiths because he was handpicked by God to be the next King of Israel. David was a special person even before this happened. As a young man, David was brave, strong, and had great faith. An example of this is when he went against the Philistine giant with a slingshot and succeeded in killing the giant. David had faith that God would be with him and help him to strike down the Philistine. I would like to have this kind of faith whether it is faith in myself, faith that things will work out for the best, or faith in God. David was chosen by God to be king because of his great faith.
David’s life is important to both Judaism and Christianity because Jesus is descended from David. Another reason he is important to both faiths is the way God looked after him. David’s enemy’s own son Jonathan protected David from Saul. Other people helped protect David when he was on the run from Saul. This shows believers that they can count on God to look after them too.
