There is need for an organization to develop an effective internal communications strategy. It is essential for an organization to be proactive in planning this sort of communications strategy in this digital age. This is because proper communication strategy enables an organization to handle situations or crises with understanding. If communication is not done effectively, then the organization will not be able to meet its set goals and objectives.
‘Employees gain a sense of ownership through exposure of the company’s most sensitive information, such as potential acquisitions and earnings and projections’. This was the most meaningful quote in Chapter 7 in Corporate Communications. This is because employees are very significant players in any organization since they run day-to-day activities. This sense of ownership also assures them of job security. If they do not feel a sense of ownership of the organization, they are bound not to work to the best of their ability. This will lead the organization to failure.
‘Conventional wisdom dictates that happy employees are more productive, motivated and loyal, not to mention more likely to act as defacto ambassadors for the brand by recommending the company’s products/services to their family and friends’. This was the most meaningful quote in Chapter 5 in Digital Strategies. This is because when employees are happy, they tend to be more productive. Any company working towards maximizing profits will always require that their employees are productive. By telling their friends and families about their company, they help build the reputation of the company.
Finally, the most powerful take away from this session was the Digital Strategies Series where Sam Palmisano, the IBM CEO, spoke. The information about the organization he is working for was an eye-opener and very academically useful. The questions, thereafter, provided a platform for any aspiring young business person to emulate some of the strategies talked about, if not all.
