Global Mind-Set
According to the test results, it is evident that I am respectful and understanding when dealing with other cultures. This is based on the fact that I scored 4 out of 5 in this part of the assessment. A key requirement in understanding others is the need to first understand self. I display this trait as I am able to understand my own culture. I would like to point out that despite my relatively high score in this area, I will focus on increasing my understanding of own culture and also my openness to change. This is necessary if I am going to be successful in the present work environment.
My attitudes influenced my score in this section of the assessment. This is because from an early age I learnt to respect and value other people’s beliefs and culture. Also, it is because of this attitude that I am willing to listen to other people’s opinion, and I am also open to change. This is because I understand that my opinion is not always correct, and that other people might have a better solution to issues facing us. My friends tell me that I have a significantly high emotional intelligence; that can be noted in this assessment in that I am comfortable to work with incomplete information and unknown outcomes. I am fully aware that if I wait to acquire all the information to make a step, I will wait for a long period of time. Hence, I believe I can start off a project with adequate information, and will make amendments as I get more information.
Global Knowledge
Global knowledge mainly involves the desire to learn about other people’s culture and also about other nations. My score in this area was slightly average as I managed 3 out of 5. My highest score in this category was in my knowledge of how people from other cultures perceive my culture. This was mainly because of my perception that I need to know how other people view me to understand why the react in various ways when around me. However, I would like to point out my low score in readiness to learn about other cultures and nation. This is a crucial area that I will seek to improve. Consequently, this will increase my emotional intelligence as I will know how to react or what to say among people from other cultures.
Global Work Skills
My score for this section was also 3 out of 5. I scored 3 in both my desire to work hard to understand other cultures, and my ability to adjust my communication style when interacting with people from other cultures. These are two vital areas that I need to improve in order to be successful in the work environment. This is because the present workforce is more diverse than in previous decades. In order, to survive in these diverse work environments, I need to increase my knowledge of other cultures. Also, I will focus on how to adjust my communication styles when interacting with work colleagues from different cultural backgrounds. I believe that my low score in this section is mainly due to my perception that the most appropriate way to respect other cultures is by leaving them alone. After reviewing my assessment scores, I have learnt that ignorance does not lead to respect; instead it increase the likelihood that one day I will say something that will offend work colleagues from other cultures.
