In order to improve my performance, I will improve on the various characteristics possessed by successful managers. First, I will have to understand my management styles. This will be through understanding my strengths and weaknesses. I believe this will be helpful because I will be able to use my strengths to my advantage. Understanding my weaknesses will ensure that I overcome any challenges because I will be more cautious when carrying out my duties.
I will also develop my skills for recognizing and resolving conflicts at an early stage before the conflict goes beyond my control. This will be through attending management seminars, reading a lot, and researching tirelessly. Good relationship with my juniors will help me notice any conflict and I will immediately take the necessary action. Conflicts in an organization can be disastrous because performance of the organization becomes affected. This has an impact when it comes to performance appraisals; hence I may end up with low ratings.
Having effective communication skills will also lead to my improved performance. This is true because improved communication skills helps in influencing the people that I will be managing. It is through communication skills that we manage to negotiate daily tasks. Good and effective communication skills ensure that one earns respect. It is also through improved communication skills that the communication channel is completed. As a manager, I will be able to speak to people and they will understand my intended message, which will lead to positive feedback. This will further lead to improved performance.
I also plan to ensure that everyone in the organization remains motivated never to lose morale. Motivated employees and subordinates work remarkably well because they feel they are part of the organization. Employees who perform well will always be motivated through promotions whenever such opportunities arise. They will also be given other rewards such as monetary rewards, tips, among other rewarding activities. This also ensures that subordinates compete against each other, which leads to improved performance of the company.
I will also understand my interdependence with other members of the company and the team members. A manager cannot work alone if an organization has to perform well. I will understand the role of other members and will respect them. Therefore, I will not simply give orders, but will strive to being an example to my subordinates. I will also seek guidance from other company managers whenever I will deem it necessary. Other managers, too, have something to offer and, in fact, they may be having ideas that I may not have. The interaction with them will help me improve my performance.
In order to improve my performance, I will ensure that i understand and possess the necessary, effective techniques required to deal with the stress that accompanies management. This will be possible through understanding the modern organization and the related problems.
Finally, I plan to appreciate the demands and constraints placed on an individual manager by corporate culture. Organizational culture is vital and as a manager, I need to have its thorough understanding. Its importance particularly comes because no individual manager can effect much change in an organization's prevailing culture; however, every manager can learn to be more effective within any particular organizational culture. Therefore, I intend to adapt to it because trying to change it may lead to internal conflicts, hence poor performance
