U4D1 -RESEARCH UTILIZATION AND EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE
Nursing is a field that has seen many changes over the years. Research is the backbone of nursing and it helps nursing in the development of new concepts and technology. Nurses devote part of their time in conducting research in different areas of nursing. Nursing research has seen development of new knowledge that leads to improvement of healthcare. Nursing practitioners engage in research about various diseases. The research has incorporated technology. Technology is dynamic and nurses need to have the current technology to carry out their research well. The current leadership in nursing has led to implementation of evidence-based practice. Implementation of such practices is not easy but several support strategies need to support. Leadership provides support to help in decision making that promote research (Burns & Grove, 2011). The leadership and researchers need to have support from the management to ensure the successful implementation of the evidence from the research. Nurses must have the right skills of doing the research well.
U5D1-IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGIES
What elements of the study design made it qualitative in nature?
Including catheter-Associated Urinary Tract infections in the 2008 CMS policy is a research that studied the impact on the quality of care. The interviews conducted on the participants in the study aimed to establish the attitudes towards the inclusion of the policy. The elements of design that make it qualitative in nature are the methods of employed in data collection. The research utilizes question and answer format. Other factors that make it qualitative include participant observation, interviewing and observation. The researchers in CMS payment policy is a qualitative research because it relies on feelings, thoughts and words of the participants in the research.
Of what value were the results of the study? Who would utilize that information (bedside nurses, nurse managers, nurse researchers, other staff, administrators, patients, families)?
The information from the study is important because it will help in evidence-based care. The stakeholders will utilize the information in the formulation of policies in the healthcare setting. Bedside nurses will also find the information very useful because they are the ones in charge of care for the patients with the infections.
What suggestions do you have for the next study that would follow this one to ensure that a study with more rigors (for example, a quantitative study) could be performed?
For a more rigor, quantitative study could involve questions that are not qualitative in nature. All the stakeholders of the hospital should be included in the study to give more findings (Lee et al., 2013). All the hospitals should be included, the hospitals that the Medicare policy affect and those that it does not.
