McDonaldization is the process of division of labor. A certain task is broken to smaller tasks that are easier to workout. Division of a task results in the personnel having a lesser work-load making them more effective. It also brings about specialization of this work. Due to this division it increases the number of employees. This process has disadvantages for example there can be delay from one part which causes delay to the whole group.
There are four main components of this theory: efficiency; people get an efficient way to serve their consumers in a faster way. Calculability; they base their products on the amount rather than the quality. Predictability; the products produced are similar everywhere they are made. Control; the human resource is easily controlled.
McDonaldization and Starbucks have brought about great changes socially and economically. People highly concentrate on the amount of goods produced and the time taken rather than the quality of the goods. These institutions require infrastructure that is highly developed. Social institutions such as schools require facilities like good chairs and desks to facilitate a good learning environment. An organization is like a social group where a variety of tasks are distributed and worked out to achieve a certain goal. Organizations have some effects that are positive, for example there is a combination of different ideas.
