The recent topic that has been on the news relates to transgender and bathrooms. The President had wanted the bathrooms to be considered equal concerning the use of transgender individuals. It was a topic that had many people across the country concerned and outraged about this new theory. The idea was based on a person who related to a certain gender being able to use that bathroom. For example: if a man who considered himself a woman could then use the woman’s bathroom. The same theory related to women who considered themselves as a man could use the men’s restroom.
The ethical issue that had sprung up due to this new theory was that not all men or women would be comfortable sharing a bathroom with someone of the opposite sex even if they were portraying themselves as that sex. It also raises a huge red flag concerning pedophiles who would abuse this theory and use the bathrooms to come in contact with children whom they would violate or harm. It did not stop at just bathrooms, though. The President had announced he thought it would be a good idea if the same scenario was implemented in schools. “This would mean the girls and boys may be sharing bathrooms with transgender and changing together in locker rooms” .
Transgender individuals believe that they should have the right to use the bathroom that they identify with. Ethical issues that arise is privacy and safety. The people who are not transgender but act like it will get access to the bathroom easier. This can cause harm and danger if these people are actual criminals. There is more to this situation than just who can use what bathroom. It opens up a new theory of ethics regarding rights, privacy, security, and safety.
