The cover displays a rough cave like rocky texture with plenty of “caveman art”. The art implies the evolution of man from more primitive forms walking on all fours to intermediate forms with a bent back to the more evolved upright and seemingly complex modern man. The piece is intertwined by a haunting creepy theme broken up by frantic, sound interludes that tend to grow darker and darker as man’s spirit sinks lower and he nears his imminent destruction. The work basically depicts man’s journey from primitive forms to more evolved intelligent forms to the enslavement of fellow men and ultimately the destruction of the human race. It’s a bit hard to follow the storyline since it is heavily cloaked in symbolism but eventually the whole tale comes into perspective.
In visual arts the texture is difficult to recognize because it is covered by cave art which camouflage it to the eye. In music the tempo is difficult to recognize since it coalesces with the theme and grows darker with each darkening twist of the storyline. In fiction the point of view is not easy to recognize as the artist does not explicitly offer his opinion on the activities of man but simply narrates a story seemingly impervious to the actions of the characters.
The color elicits most response from me since the artist adopts a variety of bright colors which are easily visible and stimulate alertness. I also find the rhythm very interesting as it evokes deep emotion in the listener in line with the storyline and intertwines the storyline with the senses and emotions of the audience. The plot is also of significance to me as it basically tells the tale of the human race from pre historic time to the time of slavery and somehow depicts the future with the ultimate destruction of man. His point of view on how man’s evolution will lead to his imminent and inevitable destruction is also very interesting.
There is repetition of the saxophone throughout the work. This repetition is rhythmic and tends to align with the story being told. There is rise and fall in pitch of the saxophone depending on the particular part of the story being told at the given time. The most emphasized areas of the work are the opening minute, the mid part and the conclusion. These areas stand out because of the rise or fall of the temple and the pitch of the saxophone in these areas varies from the other areas.
I start getting anxious towards the end of the work because of increased speed and tempo of the instruments. Tension is created by playing the instrument at a high pace and it is released through a slower more relaxed and soothing pace and temple. I feel the end coming with the fall in temple, fall of pitch and the general mood of the work tends to be more soothing rather than creating anxiety. The painting does not look like it’s too heavy on one side or is going to fall over because the items in the painting are evenly distributed and evenly spaced throughout the painting. There is a near symmetric arrangement of the elements on the painting creating the impression of even distribution of weight.
The ratio of unity to variety for me in this work is 90:100.the ratio affects the emotional responses since the work is capable of capturing the general mood of the audience and steering it in a particular direction. A change in pitch of the saxophone to a higher pitch towards the end of the work would evoke more emotion in the audience.
My experience this time was different from the previous experience because I was able to fully align my senses with the work and move with the artists step by step. I was also able to get a better understanding of the work and I got more insight into its relevance in modern times and even in the future. I was not as disturbed with the pitch and pace of the work as before and was able to relate more with the work.im curious about the motivation behind the creation of the piece and the general mood of the artists as they created the piece. I’m also curious as to the inspiration behind the storyline and what the artists hoped to achieve through this piece of work. I’m also curious as to the inspiration behind this exact rhythm and how harmony of such diverse instruments was was achieved. Did their mood or perception if the work actually affect how they created the work?
