- The main purpose of this article is to highlight how stress affects the life of students in college and how they can tackle stress through meditation. The article explores two different meditation based programs – Kabat Zinn’s mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) and Easwaran’s Eight Point Program (EPP). The article further details the key observations and conclusions that were derived by conducting a study on college students. The final conclusion derived from this research was that the two stress reduction programs are indeed effective in lowering the stress level among college students and adults.
- The most important information given in this study is about the different intervention groups and methods of stress reduction that are discussed in the beginning of the report. Also, the information that has been shared about how stress can lead to physical disorders as well.
- At the beginning of the study, the primary hypothesis that had been set was that after training the level of stress in the study group would decrease, there would be a reduction in rumination, increase in forgiveness and hope. Also that there would be no difference in the results that were collected for both MBSR and EPP. In light of the results of the study, it can be concluded that the changes that were observed in the treatment group were in support of the primary hypothesis. This leads to the conclusion that meditation and stress reduction programs are indeed effective in reducing the level of stress in college students and adults. These findings were also consistent with the results that were derived during previous studies by other groups. This validates the findings of the present study. However, since this study was the first to focus on forgiveness r ruminations, the results still suggest the meditation can also be effective in forming positive relationships between people. It also suggests that meditation might not have any effect on the feeling of hope or it cannot be captured by such quantitative measures.
- The key concepts we need to understand from this report are that by meditating regularly, a person can reduce the level of stress and that stress reduction programs such as MBSR and EPP are effective techniques to lower stress and form positive bonds during crucial times.
- The main points of view presented in this article are that stress is very common in college students and that stress reduction programs are very effective in reducing level of perceived stress, in increasing forgiveness and reducing ruminations.
- This information can be applied in really life because college students should be prompted to join these programs so that they improve their quality of life and take measures to ensure that they do not get stressed about living away from family and managing studies.
- My thoughts and feedbacks on this study are:
- This study has examined a very mixed group of people which means that the study shows such programs are effective on people of various age groups, ethnicity, religious backgrounds etc.
