Social Entrepreneurship
In the year 2006, Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel peace prize, having been identified as the most spirited social entrepreneur. Yunus has achieved a lot in the field of social change, having coordinated the activities of many governments, nongovernmental organizations, nonprofit institutions, as well as charities and foundations. The field of social enterprise is becoming widespread in the world today as the problems of society are on the rise in today’s world where the gap between the poor and the rich is widening at a very high rate. The concept of social entrepreneurship had become a common feature by then. The idea, which took root in the 1960s and 1970s, is a popular way of handling various social phenomena in the contemporary world. Social entrepreneurship refers to the combination of social-political efforts and social resourcefulness to identify and address social problems and issues affecting society. This paper seeks to establish various ways through which international social enterprise skills can be enhanced, and how the developed nations can, through the efforts of the social entrepreneurs, help the less fortunate people especially those in the third world countries overcome their social upheavals.
There are many things that can be done to foster the international social entrepreneurship skills. Among the most effective and efficient ways of fostering social entrepreneurship skills in the international scene is to create social awareness of the social problems affecting the society. Such awareness is the first step towards achieving the cooperation of governments and other authorities, as well as the contributions of other members of the public and likeminded social entrepreneurs. Perhaps, public campaigns with the backing of the government are the most effective ways of creating a sense of responsibility in the general public. Such efforts can possibly cause the kind of cooperation that can minimize the gap between the rich and the poor. Through working with the nongovernmental organizations, I would ensure that the international community’s problems are identified in good time and that strategies that can streamline the situation are in place. The best and perhaps most effective way of fostering the international social skills is through the use of multinational nonprofit institutions.
The first idea therefore is the use of nongovernmental efforts, nonprofit institutions and charity foundations. The charity foundations are usually created to serve a specific social class and address particular problems affecting such a class. Perhaps the best example of the foundations is the George foundation. The famous George foundation is meant to empower women in the third world nations as well as the developed economies. The empowerment of women in the developing nations by the George foundation is most prominent in South America. The foundation has enabled women in many countries empower themselves economically through the provision of funds and resources as well as vocational training. In a bid to enhance the social entrepreneurship skills internationally, therefore, I would work closely with such foundations and nongovernmental organizations as well as the nonprofit institutions. Working closely with such multinational charities and foundations would enable me gather the relevant data about the affected classes of people.
The second idea that I would adopt in fostering the social entrepreneurship skills in the international community would be to seek the cooperation and assistance by governments of the developed nations as well as those nations that are experiencing such problems as I may seek to address. The governments of the developed nations, as well as the international financial institutions such as the international monetary fund and the World Bank can provide funds that are meant for the smooth running of the social entrepreneurship programs. The efforts of the social entrepreneurs are best effected if and when they are funded by such reliable sources as the developed governments and the international financial institutions. I would as well seek to obtain relevant information concerning the problems and possible solutions. This will definitely assist me develop workable plans. It is worth noting that, just like any other field, the social enterprise calls for adequate planning. Such plans are meant to create a head way for the assistance efforts.
The third idea I would embrace would be to create social institutions concerned with the idea. This has been described as the most effective and practical way of achieving the objectives of the social entrepreneurship efforts. Creating institutions was the reason behind the fame of such prominent personalities as Michael young in the 1990s. The efforts of the prominent social entrepreneur enhanced the popularity of the idea a great deal. The foundations that were pioneered by such social entrepreneurs assisted many societies and communities such as those hard hit by poverty, hunger, gender imbalances, and natural disasters. The foundations provided such assistance as financial support and provision of basic needs as foods, clothing and shelter. Resettlement of the people displaced by disasters is one task that can be performed by the social entrepreneurs as a way of enhancing the social entrepreneurship skills and efforts.
Looking at the idea from the American perspective, there is a lot that needs to be done so as to improve the conditions and states of other people especially those in the third world nations. The American government should encourage the nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations to venture into the third world nations where the people are less fortunate, and the gap between the poor, as well as the rich is considerably wide. The developed world should invest much time and resources in developing ideas and organizations that can offer aid to the third world nations. By cooperating with the governments and other local nongovernmental institutions, the developed world can do a lot in changing the conditions in the third world nations that are likely to cause the social problems. For instance, the developed world, for example such countries as the United States, can form organizations that can eradicate poverty by empowering such social groups and classes as the youth and the women. These are among the most vulnerable groups in the third world. By empowering them, the developed world will be able to perk up the conditions in the developing countries.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that the social enterprise is one of the most effectual ways of eradicating social problems. The efforts aimed at enhancing the social entrepreneurship in the international scene can best be enhanced by the nonprofit organizations and nongovernmental organizations that act in the international scene. Social entrepreneurship is fostered by the developed nations through such individuals as Michael young and institutions as the George foundation. Identification of social problems is the first step towards establishing an efficient and effective social enterprise. Cooperation and coordination between the nongovernmental and nonprofit organizations and is the basis of the social enterprise.
